Definitions

  • the invention relates to a method for applying a multilayer coating on granules such as dragee cores, the individual coating layers being applied one above the other in such a way that the coating composition for a coating layer is successively applied to the granulate bed held on a movable, air-permeable treatment pad, distributed on the surface of the granules and is dried, whereupon the covering is largely dried out and finally its outer surface is hardened, smoothed and polished, and in particular drying air flows continuously through the granulate bed during the treatment.
  • a rotatable drum is generally used as treatment pads, the granulate bed being inclined according to the direction of rotation and then the drying air being directed so that it flows through this bed to some extent evenly. While in most known processes the drying air enters the bed at the top (direct current to the spraying flow), in other processes the drying air flows up through the granulate bed led and drawn off there (counter current). As far as the air is only sucked in, the pressure differences acting on the granules are relatively small, and the drying effect is correspondingly low. Therefore, work can only be carried out economically if the drying air is also supplied to the drying chamber in the order of magnitude of 200 to 400 mm / WS.

  • the invention is based on the coating method specified at the outset and pursues the task of coating the granules in such a way that the inner layers are subjected to as little stress as possible and uniformly and can therefore be dried out relatively densely, while the outer layers applied to the already dry and relatively dense inner layers are hardened, compacted and smoothed to a much greater extent.
  • the drying air is guided from the treatment bed through the granulate bed upwards (counterflow), at least during the polishing process, but at least during the polishing process from above through the granule bed to the bed (direct current).

  • the layer height when drying out may only be 4 cm to 5 cm. All of this is very costly and time-consuming and primarily affects confectionery production, since the pharmaceutical industry works with faster and more hardening e-coating materials, which result in a more resistant casing more quickly. According to the invention, however, it is readily possible to quickly dry out soft blankets without reloading processes so that the outer blanket can then be applied immediately.
