DESlGN FOR CARPETS.

Specification forming part of Design No. 6,259, dated November 19, 1872.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ARTHUR. MAZEPPA. KING, of Kidder'minster, in the county of \Vorcester, in England, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying photographic illustration forming part of the specification.

The design consists of a large shield with pointed ends terminating in crescent-shaped lignrcs with curved ends, and surmounted with a-jleur-dc-iis. Each side of this shield is curved so as to form two points, which are ornamented with scroll-work and crowns. The outer edge of the shield is embellished with scroll-work and leaves. In the middle are two diamondshaped figures with scalloped sides, forming crowns at the points. In the center of each of these figures is a small cross, and near the points leaves. Around the diamonds are ranged four leaves, one opposite each side. Immediately within the border, and at each end of the large shield, is an arched figure with its apex turned outward. On each side of this arch is a Maltese cross. A short distance from the ends of the shield is placed a cross ornamented with scroll-work and leaves. Four small,stars or rosettes surround this areas, one opposite each angle formed by the arms. The ground-work of this design is formed of creeping vines, profusely covered with leaves; and
