Application filed November 8, 1888b Serial No. 290,334. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK R. KALDEN- BERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New 5 York, have invented and produced anew and original Design for a llandle for Cutlery, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which is a side elevaro tion of a handle for cutlery, showing my new design.
The leading feature of my design consists in raised cordate figures springing from a central shield -sliaped figure with volutes and 15 leaf-like ornamentatious, the whole surmounted by a scalloped shellshaped figure.
a is the handle, which is of the usual shape, but has an irregular outline extending entirely around the same by reason of its pecu- 2o liar ornamentation.
On the lower end of the handle, above a band, I), are two curved figures, c a, set to turn in opposite directions and form volutcs d d on each edge of the handle. 5
shaped figure e, and on each side of the same, outside of its peripheral line, are three small Centrally placed on the handle is the shieldvolutes, f f f. Above and below the shieldshaped figure e, and springing therefrom, are the cord-ate oblong figures g g in raised outlines, which terminate in volutes h h hh,.falling within the contour-line of each figure, and from which depend the raised leaf-like ornament-ations 'i i. Surmounting the upper cordate figure, g, is the scalloped shell-shaped figure Near the lower end of the handle, below the cordate figure g, is a diamond figure, I, with embossnrent m.
The outline of the two edges of the handle follows the curves of the several figures hereinbefore described.

The design for a handle for cutlery herein shown and described, comprising the cordate figures g g, shield-shaped figure e, scalloped shell figure j, leaf-like oruamentations t i,volutcs fff, and curved figures c c, as set forth.
