DESiGN FOR COFFIN-HANDLE SOCKETS.
Specification forming part of Design No. 7,393, dated April 21, 187-45 application filed March 26,1874. [Term of Patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, \YILLIAM M. S111 T11, of \Vest hl'eriden, in thecounty ot'Nevv Haven and State of Connectie11t,l1ave invented a new Design for Coffin-Handle Socket; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the aceom 'ianying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents a perspectiveview.
This invention relates to a design for the socket by which the handles are secured to cottins, &c.; and it consists in the peculiar configuration of the socket, as shown in the accompanying illustration, and hereinafter described.
The socket is in general form of a crossmay be Greek, Latin, or other. Each of the arms terminates in a quadrangular form, one
of the angles merging into the arm. Each of the other three angles are substantially right angles, and with a recess in each of the sides of the quadrangle, so that the top of each arm has the appearance of three arms of a Greek cross. Around the edge of the whole a raised edge is formed, and the interior surface mat ted or otherwise ornamented. 0n the center. or at other convenient point, the lag is formed to receive the handlepivot.
The ornamentation forms no part of this design-si1nply the outline or configuration.
