OF MOTT HAVEN, NEW YORK.
Design No. 4,971, dated June 6, 1871.
DESIGN FOR A COOKING-STOVE.
The Schedule referred to ln these Letters Patent and making part of the lame.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, WILLIAM H. BUnRoWs, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Front and Sides of an Elevated Range, which I term the St. George, and of which the following is a description, with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure l represents a perspective view of a range of my design, and
Figure 2 is a central profile section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
At the base ot' the range is a broad fillet, a, immediately above which is an ogee, l, and above the latter is another iillet surmounted by an ogee, c.
rIhe tire-place front A oi' the range is bulged or convexly curved horizontally in the usual manner, and its lower portion conforms to the base molding of the range, and is bounded by two vertical beads, u u.
The draught portion ot' this front is of rectangular form with an arched top, and is bounded with moldings d, the form of which is shown more particularly in fig. 2.
Above the fire-place front is the feeder B, the door of which is inclined and formed with moldings, whose shape is shown at f in lig. 2, and having the words St. George formed on it.
On the front of the range, on each side of the fireplace front, and also on each side oi' the range, are rectangular panels, having arched tops and iuclosing a bass-relief Ligure, w, the form of which, and ol' the moldings g g surrounding these panels, is clearly represented in fig. 1 of the drawing.
At the corners of the range are other panels h h, which also inclose ornamental figures a: x, which are represented in the drawings.
The top of the fire portion of the range is bounded by a cavetto, t', surinounted by a deep illet,j.
The oven-hanging lip or portion of the top plate C consists of a fillet, k, surmounted by an ovolo, L.
The back or recessed portion of the range immediately above the top plate has formed along its bottom and sides panels mm, iuclosing bass-relief ornaments c", an ovolo, y, surmounted by a bead, z', and on its face the shape ofwhich, and ofthe panel molding, is clearly shown in the drawings.
In the rounded front corners of this portion are sunken panels n n, which also inclose ornaments 41.*, and are shown in the drawings.
The upper portion of the range which contains the ovens and hot closets is bounded by an ovolo, o, and on each side of the oven-doors D D is a bass-relief ornament, p.
'lhese doors D D are bounded by moldings b", and have bass-relief figures of St. George and the Dragon formed on them, which, and the shape ofthe moldings, are clearly represented.
Over these doors is a projecting ledge, L, whose edge is formed to constitute a fillet surulounted by two ovolos.
Above this ledge are the doors E E of the hot closets, which are bounded by moldings 0*, and have bassreliet' ornaments formed on them, which, and the moldings themselves, are clearly represented.
At the sides of the doors are panels q q, whose moldings are the same as those of the doors E E, and incluse bass-relief figures d* d.
Near each side edge of this portion of the range is a bass-relief figure, r.
Above this portion is au overhauging top, Whose front edge consists of a fillet, s, surmounted by an ovolo, t.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
rIhe design for a range, as herein shown and described.
WILLIAM H. BURROWS.
