(Application. filed Mar. 17, 1902.)
WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELZY M. WVOLFF, OF MANSFIELD, OHIO.
DESIGN FOR A MONUMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,950, dated June 10, 1902.
Application filed March 17,1902. Serial No. 98,674. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whont it 11mg concern:
Be it known that LELZY lVLWVOLFlEa citizen of the United States, residing at Mansfield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Monuments; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
In the accompanying drawing the figure is a perspective View of my new and originallydesigned monument, showing its essential features.
The said monument consists of the base A, which is rectangular, beveled upon the upper face at the sides and ends to a line with the second base B, the corners Cleft sharp. The second base B is also rectangular, provided upon its lower edge with the vertical wall D. A plain core-molding E is formed above the vertical wall, and extending around the said base a fillet F is formed above the core-molding. The upper edge of the said base is finished by the ogee molding Gand fillet II. This description fully sets forth the design of the bases A and B.
The die J, resting upon the top of the base 13, projects over a portion of the ogee molding G, the lower edge K rounded and cut undertoa line with the fillet H. The ends L are cut inclined toward the top and finished by the projecting core M, surmounted by the foliated molding N and volutes O. The front and back of the die are provided upon the lower edge with the projection K, rounded to conform with the ends. The pilasters R are inclined toward the top at the same angle as the ends of the die and provided with the projecting core M. The face of the die between the pilasters R and from the line a; a: is cut deeper than the face of the pilasters, forming a slightly curved and inclined face S. The upper surface of the cap T is convex longitudinally and flat upon the cross-section. The upper edge of the cap is provided with the molding U, intersecting with the curved antefixes V at each corner of the monument. The said antefixes rest upon the pilasters R and intersect with the volute O and foliated molding N. Projecting from the face of the cap and below the molding U is the molding Kearved with fleur-de-lis. Thelower edge of said molding is provided with a beaded fillet Y, as shown in the accompanying drawing.
Having fully described my new monumental design, what I claim is The design for a monument substantially as illustrated and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ELZY M. WOLFF.
