JAMES ELBERT WELCH, OF BURDICKVILLE, MICHIGAN.
DESIGN FOR A MONUMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,688, dated February 4, 1902.
Application filed October 24,1901. $erial'N0. 79,873. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, J AMEs ELBERT WELcH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Burdickville, in the county of Leelanau and State of Michigan, have invented and produced a certain new and original Design for a Monument; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a partof this specification.
Figure 1 is a face View of the monument. Fig. 2 is a side View of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan View of the same.
The design relates to monuments; and itconsists in the novel configuration and ornamentation, as hereinafter set forth.
As shown in the drawings, the leading feature of my design consists of the arched rib A on the face of the upright stone and the intersecting ribs 13 on the face of the base, said ribs being convex in cross-section. The rib branches terminating at their upper ends in;
an arch or curve, as indicated at C. The ribs B intersect at the corner portions of the face of the base, their ends projecting a little from each point of intersection, as indicated at D. The surface of the face of the upright stone within the arch is provided with two crosses E, one near the top of the arch and the other near its lower end. Between the upright stone and the base is a step-stone F, the face of which is not provided with such ribs.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-+ The design for a monument, as herein shown and described.
