DESIGN FOR A BUILDING STRUT OR COLUMN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 30,549, dated April 1 1, 1899.
Application filed March 17,1899. Serial No. 709,552. Term of patent 7 years.
To LLZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, \VILLIAM J. GALLAWAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Go rin, in the county of Scotland and State of Missouri, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Building Strut or Column, of which the following is a speeification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for a building strut or column; and it has for its object to provide a design of this character that shall be both useful and ornamental.
The leading feature of the design resides in a strut stem or shank provided at one end with a rectangular rest-plate having at the center thereof a single upstanding spur.
A minor feature of the design is the stem or shank being of a cylindrical shape and provided at its lower end with a circular base portion having a beveled upper side and a flat lower side.
Additional minor features of the design are the rectangular rest-plate having a flat upper side, a conical under side merging into the stem or shank, and the spur of an angular shape in cross-section.
In the drawings, Figure 1. is a perspective view of; a building strut or column embodying the design contemplated by the present invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 4c is a top plan view of the strut or column.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, the numeral 1 designates the straight cylindrical stem or shank of the strut or column, which is provided at its lower end with a circular base portion 3, having a flat underside l and a beveled upper side 5. At its upper end the stem or shank 1 is provided with a rectangular rest-plate 6, having a flat upper side and a conical lower side 7, merging into the exterior outlines of the stem or shank. The said rectangular rest-plate 6 is provided at the center thereof with the single upstanding spur 8, which is of an angular shape in cross-section.
