Wimesses UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
\VILLIAM ll. PERRY, OF CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
DESiGN FOR A MONUMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,374, dated May 2, 1893. Application filed April 5, 1893. Serial No. 469.207. Term of patent 7 years.
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. PERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Concord,in the county of Merrimac and State of New Hampshire, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Monuments, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
The leading features of my design consist in the particular shape and configuration of the base, pedestal, and shaft, the various ornamentations, and the character of the surfaces of the different parts, all of which will be fully set forth in the following specification and claim and clearly illustrated in the ac companying drawing, forming a part thereof.
Referring to the drawing by figures and letters of reference, the base 1, is oblong and has four vertical sides, and terminates in an obtuse frustum of a pyramid as shown at 2. The pedestal 3, is also oblong and has four vertical sides which terminate in an acute frustnm 4,having on one or more of its sides a raised tablet 5. The shaft 6, is also oblong and has four vertical sides which terminate at their top in an acute frustum 7, of apyramid. Gable extensions 8, rise ata point about midway from the ends of one or both of the long sides 6 of said shaft, extending laterally to the frustnm 7, and either or both of the said gables 8, may be ornamented by a design 9 somewhat resemblinga combination of dogtooth and qnarterfoil, as shown.
Another feature of my design is the raised tablet 10, having rectangular beveled edges 11, formed upon, and equidistant from either edge of, the oblougside 6, of the shaft. Within the beveled edges of the tablet 10, is an ornamentation which is easily distinguished by a border line 12, within which the surface is designated by a finish of a different char actor. The oblong sides of the shaft 6, may be further ornamented by a bead 1?), surrounding the tablet 10, as shown.
The various styles of finish comprising surfaces of a different character are also features of my design, those surfaces marked A, being termed rockwork, those marked B, being hammered work, while those marked C, are polished work.
The frnstum 7, maybe finished with the draft-lines 14,which will give to the surfaces of its sides and top the appearance of tablets 15, of rockwork.
What I claim is The design for a monument substantially as herein shown and specified.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
W. II. PERRY.
