DESIGN FOR A MONUMENT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,856, dated October 24, 1893.

Application filed July 24,1893. Serial No. 481,351. Term ci patent 7 years.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. PERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Concord, in the county of Merrimae and State of New Hampshire, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Monuments,of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.

My design consists in the particuiar configuration of the shaft, the various ornamentations of the shaft,the pedestal, and the base, and the character of the finish of the differentparts comprising the new monumental de sign, which wili be fully set forth in the following specification and claim and clearly illustrated in the drawing accompanying and forming a part of same, reference being had to the drawing by gures and letters.

The base has four vertical sides which terminate at their top in an obtuse frustnm 2, of a pyramid. The pedestal 3, has four verticai sides terminating in an acute frustum 4, of a pyramid, one or more sides of which may be ornamented with a raised tabiet 5, as shown.

The shaft has four vertical sides G, ornamented with the tablet as follows, to-wit:- The tablets 7, which are located at its bottom, are in relief, and their lower edges meet the top of the frustnm 4, while their upper edges are beveled and are provided with aconcave curve 8, the lowest portion of which is about midway between the vertical edges thereof,

the tablets 9, being Hush with the sides G, of shaft, and designated by a borderline having the configuration shown at 10, and further distinguishable by a finish of a diierent character; while the tablets 11, are located at the top of the vertical sides of the shaft, the upper corners of which join the pyramidal top l2 of said shaft. Said tablets 11, are in relief, and their lower edge which is beveled as at 13, is provided with the downward projection 14, and just above said projection 1l, and midway from each vertical corner is a circular depression 15, having in its center an ornament 1G, in relief, and the upper edge of each of said tablets il, has a gable projection 17, rising from a point near either vertical edge thereof, the sides of said gable extend inward and meeting the sides of the pyramid 1:2.

The Various characters of finish of my new design is designated by letters A, B, tlf-A denoting rock work, B, hammered work, and C, polished work.

What I claim is- The design for a monument as shown and described herein.
