Application filed March 3, 1892- Serial No. 423.663. Term efpatent 3% years.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. PERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Concord, in the county of Merrimae and State of New Hampshire, have invented and produced a certain new and original Design for Monuments, of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying drawing figures and letters of reference are used to denote the various distinguishing features of my design.
The base is oblong, as shown at 1, and has four vertical sides terminating at their tops in an obtuse frustnm of a pyramid, as seen at The pedestal 3 has four verticai sides resting upon the frustum 2, and terminates at its top in an acute frnstum of a pyramid shown at L, one or more sides of which are provided with a raised tablet 5. The shaft is also oblong and has for the greater portion of its length vertical sides 6, and its ornamentation consists of the tablets 7, 8, and 9, the tablets Tand 9 being in relief, and from the upper edge of said tablet J the shaft 6 terminates in a four-sided arch 10, having at its top a horizontal cylindrical projection 11, extending from one to the other of the narrow ends of said arch 10. One or more sides of the said tablet SJ may have at their tops an arched extension 19, reaching inward to the side of the arched top 10 of said shaft, and said arched extension 12 will be capped with a horizontal cylinder 13, running from the face of said arched extension 12 to the side of the arched top 10. The lower edges of said tablet 9 and the upper edges of said tablet 7 are beveled, as seen at 14, and the lower edge of the tablet 7 terminates in an ovolo molding, which joins the frustum 4.. The tablets 8 are rectangniar in eonfigu ration and flush with the surface of the shaft 6, but are distinguished therefrom by surfaces of a different character, and each of thelongestsides of said shaft may have two of said tablets S, as shown, and the narrow sides but one.
The various surfaces by which my design is ornamented are styled rock-work, hammered work, and polished work, designated in the drawing, respectively, by the letters A l) 0.
Having described my new design, what I claim is- The design for a monument, as herci n shown and described.
In testimonywhereof I atiix mysignature in presence of two witnesses.
