UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IVILLIAM H. PERRY, OF CONCORD, NEW' HAMPSHIRE.
DESIGN FOR A MONUMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,774, dated October 19, 1897.
Application tiled September 8, 1897. Serial No. 650,990. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom t may concern.:
Be it known that I, YVILLIAM H. PERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ooncord, in the county of Merrimac and State of New Hampshire, have invented and prod uced a new and original Design for Monuments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The originality of my present design is confined to the style and ornamentation of the tcp of the shaft and to the character of the finished surface of the different parts, as will be fully set forth in the following specification and claim, and clearly illustrated in the drawing accompanying and forming a part of the same, reference to which will be made by figures and letters, to wit:
The oblong base of the monument is represented at l, the four vertical sides of which terminate in an obtuse frustum 2 of a pyra mid, upon which rests the pedestal 3, terminating in an acute frustum of a pyramid 4, which may be provided on one or both of its sides with a raised tablet 5.

The shaft 6 isshaft projects beyond the saine, the under portion of this projection being` curved upward and outward, as at 9, to the four vertical sides l0, which are ornamented near each end by V-grooved depressions l1. The upper surface of this cap is in the form of an obtuse pyramid l2, the central portion of each of its four sides being ornamented by a depressed tablet 13, which is formed tapering toward the apex of said cap and is conveXed in cross-section and is represented as being composed of overlapping sections, as at 14. The vertical face of one or more of these tablets being ornamented by a scroll shown by a heavy bordereline 15) and by a finish of a different character, (designated in the drawing by the letter 0,) the various styles of iinish used on the monument beingknown as rockwork, hammered work, anc polished work, (shown, respectively, by letters A B C.)
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- The design for a monument substantially as herein shown and described.
