JAMES MORGAN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DESIGN FOR A MONUMENT.
Specification forming part of Design No. 9,964, dated May 8, 1877; application filed April 27, 1877. [Term of Patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES MORGAN, of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a Design for a Monument, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my design is fully shown in the accompanying drawing, to which reference is made.
The invention relates to an improved design for a monument for graves; and consists of a base-section of pyramidallydiminishing shape, a middle section, an enlarged capital, and a surmounting vase.
In the drawing, A represents the base, the base-section of which consists of a larger base stone or step, a, an intermediate tapering part, a, a second step, b, of less height than the first, a smaller intermediate part, b, a convex molding, d, a step, d, of small height, and a tapering or truncated step, e, the whole forming a base of pyramidally-diminishing appearance. The middle section B has a narrow square step, f, and groove f at the lower part, adjoining the base A, a slightly-tapering main portion, and a top groove, f, from which the enlarged capital 0 extends by a concaved molding, g, the capital having raised ridges at each side, with face ornaments, the ridges being centrally connected to form a support for the top vase D, of any suitable form consonant with the plain style of the monument.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters tatcut- 1. The design for a monument, consisting of a pyramidally-tapering base, A, having steps a and b, with intermediate inclined parts a b, a molding, 01, step d, and inclined step c, of a middle section, B, with base-step f and base and top groovesf f and of a capital, 0, with ridges g, substantially as shown and described.
2. The design for a monument, consisting of the pyramidally-tapering base, having the middle section B, enlarged capital 0, and surmounting vase D, substantially as shown and described.
JAMES MORGAN. Witnesses:
