DESIGN FOR A MONUMENT.
Specification forming part of Design No. 9,968, dated May 8, 1877; application filed April 27, 1877.
[Term of Patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES MORGAN, of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New Yorkfhave invented a Design for a Monument, of which thefollowing is aspecification:
The nature of my design is fully shown in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 represents a front View, and Fig. 2 a side View, of the monument.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention relates to a design for a gravemonuinent, haring'base stones or steps, plain middle portion, and plain top, enlarged by side-projecting parts, with cappings.
In the drawing, A A are the base stones or steps, which are connected with each other and the middle section B by tapering parts, the steps diminishing in width and height. The middle section B rises, by a plain square portion, from the base-steps; tapers then to the straight upper partition, having cut-away edges b, which run up nearly to the top 0.
The top 0 projects, by convex side moldings d and a square step, e, from the middle section, having a central tapering cap, f, and horizontal side caps f. The raised center capf and the side caps have ridges, dishing toward the front and rear sides of the monu ment.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The design for a monument, having basesteps of diminishing size, with intermediate tapering parts, a middle section, with upper part of less width than the lower, and with cutaway edges, and a top with side projecting part-s, raised center, and horizontal side caps with transverse ridges, substantially as described and shown.
