ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR MIDDLETON ROSE, OF YONKERS, NENV YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE W. in J. SLOANE, OF NEW YORK.
DESIGN FOR CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,232, dated June 15, 1897.
Application filed April 10, 1897. Serial No. 631,634. Term of patent 3* years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ARTHUR MIDDLETON ROSE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Yonkers, in the county of Westchester, State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets and Borders, of which the following is aspecification.
My design, as shown in the drawing, consists in a new design for the body and border of a carpet.
In the drawing, A represents the body, and B the border.
The design A is characterized by a loose arrangement of slender curving scroll-like stems bearing blossoms, foliage, and tendrils at irregular intervals, all sparsely located upon the background, the main curved lines of the design A being suggestive of the Hogarth line of beauty.
The design 13 is characterized bya garland of flowers, foliage, and tendrils arranged in a wavy line, said garland being crossed at regular intervals by scroll forms bearing flower-buds and tendrils and a central nosegay or blossom terminating the volnted end of the scroll, the voluted scroll and wavyshaped garland being the distinguishing features of the design B and harmonizing in their characteristics with the lines of the body design A.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a design for acarpet, the bodyA, substantially as shown.
2. In a design for a carpet, the border B, substantially as shown.
3, The design for a carpet, comprising the body A and the border B, substantially as shown.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ARTHUR MIDDLETON ROSE.
