No. 20,813. Patent-ed June 2,1891.
WITNESSES INVENTOH I 07508 60); .27 fab fidorv f1. c2. @M I By A TTORNE Y8 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUSTIN F. JACKSON, OF TAUNTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THE REED & BARTON CORPORATION, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A SPOON, 81.0.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,813, dated June 2, 1891.
Application filed May 8,1891. Serial No. 392.111. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUSTIN F. J AOKSON, residing at Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Handles of Spoons, &c of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, the figure of which represents a face view of a spoon the handle of which is designed according to my invention.
For this design I have adopted and devised figures and symbols commemorative of the discovery of America.
The leading feature of my design consists in the figures of a king and queen, representing Ferdinand and Isabella, in erect position.
a indicates the said leading feature, the same appearing as if the king and queen were standing upon a platform or throne, and in connection with an ornamental border I), the upper portion of which merges into an overhanging canopy c, centrally of which is the representation of the Spanish coat of arms d, from which hang the pendants or tassels e, and below such border is a transverse ornamentation f, which may be omitted, if desired, the whole appearing on the upper end of the spoon-handle. Upon the shank of the handle are represented the words Ferdinand and Isabella, which, however, form no part of the design and may be omitted.
While I have shown the design of a spoonhandle, it may be used on the handles of knives, forks, ladles, he.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for the handles of spoons, forks, knives, &c., as set forth and represented.
AUSTIN F. JACKSON.
