DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFIGATION'forming part; of Design No. 19,819, dated May 6, 1890.
Application filed April 11, 1890. Serial No. 347,544. Term of patent 31/ years.
To all when it nmy concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES L. FOLSOM, a eitizen of the United States, residing in the city of Brooklyn. in theeountyof Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to theaeeompanying photograph, which forms a part. of the same.
The invention relates to a design to he worked into or upon surfaees, such as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.
The accompanying photograph is a face View of a carpet showing my new design.
My design is composed of a body A and a border B.
The body A consists of irregular figu res having an ornamentation resembling in appearance the grain oi woodcut in cross-section. These figures are scattered over the design at irregular intervals. The groundwork consists of irregular 1ine-worlc.
The border 5 has an inner margin of small ornamental figures. Next to this is the main part of the border, which is similar in character to the bod portion A of the design and then an outer part irregular in form and havingeol'al-shaped figures combined with small circular flower forms. The outer margin has indistinct grain eti'ects at irregular intervals.

l. The design for a carpet, consisting of the body A, substantially as shown.
2. The design for a carpet, consistingof the border 3, substantially as shown.
3. The design for a carpet, consisting of the body A and the border 13, substantially as shown.
