DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design I70. 18,394, dated- June 19, 1888.
Application filed April 28, 1888. Serial No. 272.212. Term of patent 14 years,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNST LAUSCHKE, asubject of the Emperor 'of Germany, residing at Chicago, Illinois, in the county of Cook, have 5 invented a certain new and original Design for a Foot of Printing-Type, which is set forth in the following specification, reference being bad to the accompanying typographical impressions, which are exact representations of said design.
This design is for a font of printing-type comprising capitals, characters, and points, and is a heavy solid-faced type without ornaments. Its peculiarities are as follows: The main stems terminate squarely at their upper ends, and are provided with ceriphs at their lower ends. It has letters-as B, D, O, P, Q, and Rwhose stems are broken near the tops at an oblique angle. It also has letters-as C, :0 E, F, G, L, S, T, and Z-whose horizontal strokes are provided with ceriphs which are sharply-pointed abrupt tapers. It also has letters-as N, U, V, W, and Y-which have at the upper endstot' one or more of their stems a. heavy inwardly-extending horizontal stroke. Minor peculiarities are the long cross-strokes of the Bond Fund thetorminationof the stems of the V and W.
I clnim-- The design fora rout of printing-typeherein shown and described, comprising capitals, characters, and points, having letters whose stems are thickened at their lower ends, and whose horizontal strokes are provided with ceriphs. which are sharply pointed abrupt 5 tapers, substantially as described.
