DESIGN FOR A NEWEL-POST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 14,943, dated April 1, 1884.

To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY TEX'roR, of: outline and recessedornaments.
Brooklyn, in Kings county and the State of New York, have invented and produced a certain new Design for Newcl-Posts, olwhich the following is a specification.
i will describe in detail a newel-post cmbod ving the design, and then point out the features in claims.
The accompanying illustration is a perspective view of a newetpost embodying the new design.
The basca of thisncwetpost is of polygonal form. It is surmounted by a body, the lower portion of which consists of alarge convex molding, 1). Above this large molding b is a concave molding, 0. Above the molding c is an ontwardly-tlaring portion, (l, divided longitudinally by grooves (1'. Immediately above this flaring portion (1 is a flat polygonal portion, 0. Above this is an angular groovc,f. Next above this groovef is a long upwardlytapering portion, 9. The flat polygonal portion 6 has on its several sides a square or diamond-shaped ornament, h, which projects over the adjacent outwardly-flaring portion d, and also over the long upwardly-tapering portion 9. The long upwardlytapering portion has scrollshaped ornaments i on the upper portion, small scroll-shaped ornaments j on the lower portion, and grooves k and lbetween the scrollshaped ornaments. On the upper part of the long tapering portion 9 is a molding, m. Above this molding is a portion, a, and surinounting moldings 0. Above the moldings l 0 are gablelikc projections having a curved Above these gable-like projections is a. l'oliatc molding, q. The finial ot'this newel has a polygonal base. 1', a concave molding, 8, above the base, a (y lindric portion, 1, embellished with shield-like ornaments a and intermediate scallops, a conical upper portion, if, provided with radial grooves or stria, and a surmountingbnlton, 1r.
\Vhat I claim as myth-sign, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In a design for a. ncwcl post, the body thereof, consisting of the convex molding I), the concave molding c, the portion (1, having the longitudinal grooves d, the llat portion w. the angular groovef, the tapering portion 1 the (ilillllOllti-Sllll])Qd ornament h, the scroll shaped ornaments i andj, the grooves I. I, the molding m, the portion n. the sin-mounting molding o. the gablo'like projections p. and the foliate molding substantially as do scribed and shown.
2. In a design for a newetpost, the linial thereof consisting of the polygonal base 1', the concave molding s, the cylindrical portion I, shield-like ornaments u and intermediate scallops, the conical upper portion, 1, and the surmounting button 1r, substantially as described and shown.
3. In a newel-post, a body made and ornamented substantially as described and shown.
