Description

DESIGN.
W. J. IRWIN.
BRACKET FOR GBATES.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM J. IRWIN, OF SPRINGFIELD, OHIO.
DESIGN FOR A BRACKET FOR GRATES.
SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Design No. 13,666, dated February 27, 1883.
Application flied November 2t, 1882.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM J. IRWIN, of Springfield, county of Clarke, State of Ohio, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Brackets for Grates, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
In the annexed drawings, which illustrate a bracket for fire-places constructed in accordance with my design, Figure l is a top or plan View; Fig. 2, a cross-section taken on the line a b Fig. 3, a cross-section taken on the line a d.
The body of this bracket consists of two concentric rings, 0 and c, with connections be tween the two rings, and a many-pointed star, h, arranged within the inner ring and connected at the terminals of its points with the said inner ring. The fancifnlly-designed con nections between the two rings are somewhat in the nature of scroll-work, so as to leave numerous unoccupied spaces, Z, between the two rings, and these said connections are preferably composed of ornamentaIly-formed letters constituting some desired name. The handle i, which radiates from the outer ring, consists of a narrow oblong plate ornamented by substantially an imitation of scroll-work, which Term of patent H years.
latter can be in the shape of letters. This ornamentation extendsthe length of the handle, and is inclosed by a border formed by the edge of the handle. At the side of the body of the bracket opposite to that from which the hendle radiates are arranged the upwardly-curved hooks f and the downwardly-projecting lugs 9. These books or curved portions rxtendontwardly from the outer ring, while the straight logs or projections g, which depend from the said ring, are a little back of the plane 000i! pied by the hooks.
Having thus described my design, what I claim is-- A design for a lire-place bracket, consisting of a body composed of two concentric rings connected together by ornamental connections, and having an ornamental figure within the inner ring, a handle radiating from said body and provided with ornamental open-work, the curved hooks, and pendent projections on the outer ring, opposite the handle, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 16th day of November, 1882.
WILLIAM J. IRWIN. Witnesses:
RANDOLPH COLEMAN, N. W. DAVIS.
