To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WIN'rnEoP L. JACOBS, of East Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for carpets and similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel grouping and configura- 1o tionotfigures hereinafter more fullydescribed.
The accompanying photograph illustrates a face "iew ot' a carpet having my new design.
A is a flower with surrounding petals or leaves. B is a group resembling the acanthus :5 leaf, with an upwardly curving S-shaped branch, S, (shown in part at each end of the photograph,) consisting ofa series of irregular recurving leafforms growing out from and along a common stem. On a stem projecting 2o downward from B and toward the left is the group C, a central bell-shaped flower, surrounded by scroll-like leaves with a larger scroll-likeleaf, projectingdown ward and to the right. Above Cis a disconnected starshaped flower, a, with a depending bell-like flower, b.
D is another flower and scroll leat' figure projecting from C; E, a similar flower projecting from D, and C an oval-shaped flower projecting upward from E. From D the main stem 0 projeois with an upward curve and forks, the
upper fork bearing the fan-like scalloped flower F, and the branching leaf-scroll H, having one head drooping over toward the right and the other and smaller toward the left, over the 5 disconnected star-shaped flower and scrollleaf cluster K, and the other fork, which recurves downward, bearing a bell-shaped leafflgure, L, with a central star-shaped flower and a leaf-spray springing upward. Two stems 4o spring downward from L. The one on the left hears a bell-like flower, 0, from which projects a branching scroll-leaf cluster, M, (shown Term of patent 3.1- years.
in part on each side of the photograph,) bearing a flower, (1, similar to F, and finally the group B, above described. The other stem 5 from L bears the star flower figure N, with a projecting star-flower below and a larger one above, also the acanthus-like spreading-leaf scroll O, curving towardthe left below, (shown in parton each side of the photograph.) P is 0 an upward-curving bell-shaped flower-figure. Q, forking from the same stem, is a similar scroll-leaf figure, with projecting flowers cf terminating in the flower and scroll group R, curving to the left, from which springs the group T, curving upward, with connected flowers. The open thwer h springs from the flowering branch U, which curves over It to the left and forks, forming the upper flower and leaf group, V, and thelower flowering stem, 1', 6o terminating in a larger bell-shaped flower. Below 6 is a small group,j, consistingof a circular flower and a fan-like flower.
