Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NICHOLAS S. VEDDER, OF TROY, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO COMSTOCK, CASTLE & 00., OF QUINCY, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR COOKlNG-STOVES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 11,192, dated May 13,1879; application filed April 7, 1879. [Term of patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, NICHOLAS S. VEDDER, of Troy, in the county of Rensselaer and State of New York, have originated and invented a new and useful Design for a Cooking-Stove; andI do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying cut, forming a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a cooking-stove of the so-called boX-pattern-that is, one of a generally cubical shape--and is more particularly confined to the ornamentation on the oven, fire-box, and front doors, and the name of the stove A.
As shown in the accompanying cut, the stove proper, A, is mounted on legs or feet I), fixed, as usual, under the corners, and having, in a front elevation, a generally triangular shape, but in side outline gracefully-flowing curves from the bottom of the stove to the end of the leg or foot. The face of each of the legs isartistically ornamented, and has prominently a shield, 1), bearing hickory leaves. The edge 0 of the base-plate of the stove, as also of the top plate, 0?, and of the main hearth c, and of the tire-box f, may be beveled and nickelplated; also, the door-knobs and other prominent parts of the stoves may be in like manner plated.
The oven-doors H, conforming in shape to the side opening of the oven, extend forward under the fire-box. On the outer edge of the said doors is a neat border, h, of ornamental shape and composition, and inside of this and parallel to it is another line, i, of ornamentation, composed generally of parallel lines with appropriate corner-pieces. On the field of the oven-doors is a spray or branch of hickory, h, with the leaves and nuts forming the main part of the figure about the center of the field. The stem of the spray extends forward into that part of the door which comes under the fire-box.
The fire-box end door m is of a rectangular shape, and has an ornamental border on its edge, and centrally on its field hickory leaves.
The front door, n, of the stove is suitably provided with openings formica lights or panes and draft-passage, and has a neat and attractive border on its outer edge, and suitable ornamentation around said openings for the lights and draft. The stove-face at the sides of this door may be ornamented. The high hearth 0 projects forward from the stove-body, and on the sliding hearth plate is cast the word Economy, but this word may be placed or cast on any other part of the stove, if so desired. The long and narrow clean-out door p, under the hearth, may be ornamented with lines'and otherwise, or may be wholly plain, and so also is this part of the stove-body.
Having thus described my invention, what I consider new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- l. The design and ornamentation of stove A, substantially as shown and described.
2. The design of the stove-oven door H, having an edge border, h, and another line of ornamentation, 1?, inside, and on its center field a hickory branch or spray, h, with leaves and nuts, substantially as shown and described.
3. The design for the side of acooking-stove in which are combined or grouped the ovendoor H, shaped and ornamented as described, the firebox end door m, with its border and central ornament-s, as set forth, substantially as described.
4. The design and ornamental shape and configuration of the store-front, consisting of the front beveled edge of the top and bottom plates, the front light and draft door, n, and high hearth, with plate having word Econoiny, in combination with the ornamentation of the fire-box and oven-doors, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
NICHOLAS S. VEDDER.
Witnesses:
