DESIGN FOB PRINTING TYPE.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDREW LITTLE, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,623, dated April 9, 1878 application filed March 7, 1878.
[Term of patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW LITTLE,'of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Font of Printing-Types, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographic impression, to which reference is made; and consists of a letter shaded upon the right and bottom by a lighter line, from which proceed a series of short light lines, presenting the appearance of rays.
The letters are ornamented at top and bottom, as in the case of the A, H, I, K, M, Y, and X, with the curl terminations, and between these curl terminations the pointed termination or projection of the up-and-down parts occurs.
In the letters B, D, and E, the curl and pointed terminations occur upon the left of the up-and-down part of the letter.
In the letters F, P, and R, the curl and pointed terminations occur at the top of the up-and-down part of the letter upon the left and upon both the right and left of the bottom, and the tail of the R has these terminations upon the right and left at the bottom.
The letters 0 and G are provided upon the right, at the top, with the heavy dot-like ornaments. The lower portion of the L has it upon the right. It occurs in the letter S upon the right at the top, and upon the left at the bot tom. The curved parts that proceed from the up-and-down part of the T have this termination, and the curved parts of the Z, upon the right at the bottom and the left at the top, have it also.
The lower portion of the Gr is provided with the curl and pointed terminations.
The curved parts of the letter E, upon the right, terminate in the heavy dot terminations. The curved part of the F upon the right is also provided with this heavy dot termination. In the letter J the heavy dot termination occurs at the base of the letter upon the left.
In the letter N the curl and pointed terminations are found at the top and bottom of the up-and-down part of the letter upon the left, and at the top of the up-and-down part upon the right. They also characterize the letters U and W at the top of the up-anddown parts.
The tail of the letter Q has the curl and pointed terminations. The letters 0, D, G. O, and Q are adorned with the curl terminations extending from the up-and-down parts of the letters about centrally. In the figures 1 and 4 the curl and pointed terminations occur at the bottom on the right and left, and ittfthe top of the up-and-down parts upon the The figure 2 has the heavy dot termination at the top on the left. Both the curved portions of the 3 have the heavy dot terminations.
The figure 5 has the heavy dot termination on the left at the bottom, and the curl termination at the right on the top.
The figure 6 has the heavy dot termination on the right at the top, and the lower curved portion terminates in a curl.
The upper portion of the 7 has the curl termination on the right and left.
Both the curved parts of the 8 terminate in the curls.
The lower portion of the 9 terminates in the heavy dot on the left and the upper portion in the curl.
In the figure 0 the curled terminations extend inward about centrally from the up-anddown parts of the figure.
The dollar-symbol has the heavy dot terminations at top and bottom'on the right and left.
Having now described my design, what I claim as new is The design for a font of printing-types, as shown and described.
ANDREW LITTLE.
In presence of- A. SIDNEY DOANE, P. J. KEATING.
