DESIGN FOR AKFONT OF PRINTING-TYPES.

Specification forming part of Design No. 10,517, dated March 12, 1878; application filed February 16, 1878. [Term of patent 14 years] To all whom it 'may concern:

Be it known that I, HERMAN IHLENBURG, (assignor to MACKELLAR, SMITHS & JOR- DAN, of the city and county of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new Design for a Font of Printing-Types, of which the following is a specification:

The nature of my design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographie impression, to which reference is made; and consists of aletter unshaded, and provided with the curlvlike terminations, as shown.

In the letters A, H, M, and N the lip-anddown part of the letter upon the left is made longer than the up-and-down part upon the right. In the letter A this up-and-down part upon the left terminates abruptly, and in the H, M, and Nit is curved at its lower part. The cross-lines of the A and H consist of a heavy succeeded by a light line.

The upper termination upon the right of the C and G is slightly inclined, and this inclined termination characterizes the E,L, S,T, and Z.

In the letter M the up-and-down parts of the letter are connected by the lines which cross each other, and present the appearance of a loop below the point of crossing.

In the letter W the up-anddown parts of the letter are connected in like manner; but the appearance of the loop characterizes the upper portion of the lines.

In the letter R the tail of the'letter is formed of an inclined line projected downward and below the right-hand up-and-down part of the letter.

The U is composed of the vertical part on the right and the curved part on the left, with the upper triangular termination concaved on the under side. l

The lower left-hand termination of the X is inclined and curved, and projects below the opposite lower termination.

The curl termination characterizes the sym bol 8L, and the figures 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 0. The figure lis composed of the up-and-down part, with the upper concaved termination and the lower inclined termination both on the left. The lower portion of the 2 consists of the horizont'al part crossed at its termination on the right by the inclined part.
