I No. 836,566.
E. DE VLIEGER.
GARMENT SUPPORTING WAIST.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 28, 1905.
THE NORRIS PETERS 50., WASHINGTON, 134C.
vide a waist having bands arranged obliqjliely thereto.
EDOUARD DE VLIEGER, OF BRUSSELS, BELGIUM.
GARMENT-SUPPORTING WAIST;
No. 836,566. Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Nov. 20, 1906.
Application filed April 28, 1905. Serial No- 257,885.
To all whom, it may concern: 1
Be it known that I, EDOUARD DE VLIEGER, l a subject of the King of Belgium, residing at i 76 Boulevard du Nord, Brussels, in the Kingdom of Belgium, have invented certain new I and useful Garment-Supporting Waists, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a waist having secured thereto bands of any 1 convenient material and of improved form and to the ends of which are movably connected elastic bands.
A further object of the invention'is to progarment-supporting bands secured thereto and with a continuous band from one side of the waist adjacent the neck and down upon the other side, with I a central band occupying substantially a vertical position along the back.
A further object of the invention is to provide a waist with bearing-bands arranged along the sides and across the neck and down the back, with bracing and strengthening With these and 0 er objects in View the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying a view in elevation of the inside of the improved waist shown in folded position. Fig. 2 is a view in elevation of the inside of the improved waist shown in an extended position. Fig. 3 is a View in elevation of a modified form of the improved waist shown in extended position and embodying obliquelydisposed brace-bands.
Like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
In its simpler form, the garment comprises a waist b, which may be with or without sleeves and is here shown for simplicity and clearness of illustration without sleeves. T 0 one side of the waist is secured in any approved manner the bearing-bands a, extending upward along one side across between the neck and shoulders and downward upon the opposite side and attached to the waist-body drawings, Figure 1 is throughout the greater portion of its length, as from c to 0. (Shown especially in Fig. 2.) The ends of the band a are turned upward to form loops d and held in adjustable position by means of slides or buckles b of any approved form. Through the loops d are secured elastic bands f of the usual and approved form. Along substantially the middle of the back of the arment, and extending in a normally vertica position, is a band a, having its lower end folded upward to form the loop d, similar to the loops d and similarly held by the slide or buckle e, the said band being secured to the waist throughout the greater portion of its length, as from its upper end to about the point a.
In the form shown in Fig. 3 the bands 0, and a are arranged similar to the bands in Figs. 1 and 2, and thereto is secured strengthening-bands comprising the bands of, secured about the edges of the armholes, with bands a extending from the said bands 0, along the shoulder-seam to and connected with the banda. From adjacent the junction of the bands a with the band a oblique bands a ex- 7 5 tend downwardly to and connected with the band (1 intermediate its ends, and from adj acent each point of junction bands (1 extend obliquely across the back, forming a junction with the bands (1 at the back of the armholes. From the bands a bands a extend obliquely to the band a, forming a brace from the front side of the armhole to the band a. It is to be understood that the bands a and a and their several associated bands maybe secured upon 8 5 the outer side of the garment, as shown in Fig. 1, or upon the inside of the garment, as shown in Fig. 2, but are preferably secured upon the outside ofthe garment, as shown in Fig. 3, with the ends inserted through open- 0 ings g to position the elastic ends or bands f andf upon the inside of the waist.
What I claim is- A waist comprising a body portion having a bearing-band extending from the middle of 5 the back adjacent the neck downward along each side and securedupon each side to a point intermediate the top and bottom, a band secured along the middle of the back and secured at its top end to the middle point In testimony whereof I name to this specification in the two subscribing witnesses.
