Description

N0. 656.9l6. Patented Aug. 28, I900. J. R. WHITE.
APPAREL- DRAWERS.
(Application filed Sept.7, 1899.)
(No Model.)
A 770HNEYS IIED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH RICHARDSON WHITE, OF ST. JOSEPH, MISSOURI.
APPAREL-DRAWERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 656,916, dated August 28, 1900'. Application filed September 7,1899. Serial No- 729,726. (No model.)
To all whont it may concern? Be it known that I, JOSEPH RICHARDSON IVHITE, of St. Joseph, in the county of Enchanan and State of Missouri, have invented new anduseful Improvements in Drawers, of
which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to drawers for women, and is distinguished particularly by a waistband separable in whole or in part from the rest of the garment and capable of being worn under the corset without interfering with the unrestricted use of the garment by the wearer.
This specification is the disclosure of several forms of myinvention, while the claim defines the actual scope thereof.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a rear View of the garment with the waistband separable only at the back. Fig. 2 is an enlarged rear view showing the rear part of the garment separated from the waistband. Fig. 3 is an enlarged side view of the garment, and Fig. 4 is a side View showin g a form of the invention in which the waistband is wholly separable from the garment.
As shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, the garment has a waistband formed of a front section a and a rear section a, the former being narrower than the latter and the band being split at the right-hand side, the front part having buttons 1) and the rear part having holes I), engaging the buttons, to connect the two parts of the band. The rear part or of the band may, if desired, be provided with a slit a? and laced at this point to facilitate regulating the size of the band.
The body of the garment is provided at each side with slits a, forming a rear or back flap 0, provided with buttonholes c engaging buttons c on the part a of the waistband. With this construction the-rear flap 0 may be connected with the waistband, as shown in Fig. 1, or disconnected, as shown in Fig. 2, without in any way affecting the position or necessitating the movement of the waistband. The
position of the waistband on the persons body being thus a permanent one, the waistband may be worn under the corset and the outer dress of the wearer fitted nicely to the figure.
Should it be desired to construct the waist band wholly separable from the other part of the garment, the upper front part at of the body of the garment may be provided with buttonholes d, engaging buttons (1 on the front part a of the waistband. In other respects the construction described above would not be departed from.
It should be understood that my invention is not limited to the details of construction herein shown. For example, fastening devices other than the described buttons and holes may be employed Without departing from the essentialities of the garment.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A garment, having a body and a waistband, the latter lying snugly around the Waist of the wearer, with its upper portion beneath the corset, and the body of the garment being formed at each side with approximately-vertical slits producing a rear flap, the upper edge of the rear flap terminating at the lower edge of the waistband, so as to leave said flap free of the corset and permit the flap to be released without disturbing the waistband, and
J OSEPII RICHARDSON Wlll'lE.
