VHEELER R. COLLINS, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
BILL-FILE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 565,871, dated August 11, '1896.
Application iiled J' anuary 13 1896. Serial No. 575,404. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, WHEELER R. COLLINS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing atDenver, in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bill-Files; and I do declare the following to be a full,- clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in bill-files; and it consists of the features here-v inafter described and claimed, all of which will be fully understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which is illustrated an embodiment thereof.
In the drawings, Figure l is a front eleva-` tion of my improved bill-file, one of the clasps (the one on the right) being open While the other is closed. Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line .r 0c, Fig. 1, looking toward the left. Fig. 3 is a section taken on the same line, looking toward the right.
Similar reference-characters indicating corresponding parts in these views, let the numeral 5 designate the frame-plate, having an opening 6 formed in its upper portion. This opening is surrounded on the bottom and the two vertical sides by a grooved way 7. This way 7 is indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1. Its two vertical portions are open at the top to permit the insertion of a memorandumcard, a calendar, or a card containing any matter convenient for use in connection with a bill-file. The lower part of the frame 5 consists of a plate 5, to which are attached the clasps 8, each composed of a spring-base 8a, having a brad 8"', and the movable part 8d, hinged to the part 8 at 8h. The part 8d is provided with a bend 8g, whereby when the movable part is raised (see Fig. 3) the free extremity of the spring-base 8a is raised, thus placing the spring under tension and temporarily lookin g the part 8d in the open position.
` a nail or other suitable supporting device.
In using the device the movable parts 81 are raised, as shown in Fig. 3, to permit the placing of the bills on the brads 8C. The parts 8d arethen thrown to the position shown in Fig. 2.
I-Iaving thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. As an improved article of manufacture, the herein-described bill-file comprising the frame-plate having its upper portion apertured, said aperture being surrounded on three sides by a grooved Way; and a clasp attached to the lower part of the plate and comprising the springbase 8a, the brad 8c and the movable part 8d apcrtured to receive the brad 8, and hinged to the free extremity of the spring-base 8a, the part 8d being provided with a bend adjacent its hinged eX- tremity, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. As an improved article of manufacture, the herein-described bill-file comprising the frame-plate having one or more clasps, each clasp comprising the springbase 8a havinga brad 8C, said base being fastened to the plate at a point adjacent the angle formed by the base and the brad; and the movable part 8d apertured to receive the brad, said part 8d being hinged to the free extremity of the spring-base, and provided with a bend adjacent itshinged extremity, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WHEELER R. ooLLINs.
