PATENT OFFICE.
FILE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 785,465, dated March 21, 1905.
Application filed August 3, 1904.. Serial No. 219,308.
To all whmn it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CATARINO ARMIJO, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Lascruces, in the county of Donna Ana and Territory of New Mexico, have invented a new and Improved File-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to file-holders, my object being to provide a device for holding files of various kinds, and especially those designed for filing away canceled checks which are to be kept for a short time only and are to be taken out at intervals.
Further objects of my invention will appear in the course of the subjoined description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a perspective view of a cabinet provided with my improved file-holder. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of one of my file-holders, and Fig. 3 is a sectional per spective view of the same.
In the drawings, 1 represents a cabinet, and 2 a series of boxes or receptacles of any ordinary construction. In the bottom of each box 2 is placed a longitudinal central rod 3, which may be fixed to the box in any desired manner, as by means of screwing into the back plate 4. The file-holder is provided with a series of celluloid cards 5, having projections 6 at their tops designed for the purpose of receiving names, dates, or any other desired matter. The cards are temporarily secured to the rod 3 by means of a fastening device composed of a flat metal piece 7, with an overlapping end 8 passing through the card, and a clasp 9, secured in the bottom of the part 8 and adapted to pass over the rod 3 and hold the card in position until removed. It will be obvious that these cards may be placed upon the rod, and therefore held in position upon it by merely forcing the clasp downward upon the rod. They can also be removed by a straight pull away from the rod, which is a great advantage.
10 is a back plate designed to be forced forward against the series of cards to hold them in position. It is attached to a hinge 11 12,
the lower part 12 of which is provided with a names shown in Fig. 1, and the card may be moved by a direct pull instead of by pulling the rod out, as is the case with the files now in use, and displacing all the cards. The card may be put away with other cards which are not in use, and when it is desired to use one of them the name may be easily erased on account of the character of the celluloid surface employed for the cards. The use of the celluloid cards is a very important feature of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent '1. A file-holder having a rod therein, a series of celluloid cards movably mounted upon and above the rod, a resilient clasp for removably holding the cards to the rod, and an adjustable means for holding said cards securely together.
2. In afileholder, the combination of a rod, a series of cards mounted thereabove, a resilient clasp for removably holding said cards in position on the rod, and means 'for forcing said cards togetl1er,comprising a plate adapted to bear upon a card at one end of the series, and a hinge secured to the plate and connected with the rod.
3. Ina file-holder, the combination of a rod, a series of cards mounted above said rod, means for removably holding said cards in position on the rod, and means for forcing said cards together, comprisinga plate, and a hinge having one half thereof secured to the plate, and having a hole through the other half, said rod passing through said hole;
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ED. A. MANN, Josie R. LUCERO.
