UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES D. LINDSEY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN PAPER-FILES,
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 13?,851, dated April 15, 1873; application filed August 10,1872.
Be it known that I, C. D. LINDSEY, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Paper-File, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to apparatus for se curing or holding papers of various kinds, as letters, bills, or other papers; and consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a back view of the improved paper-file. Fig. 2 is a top or plan view. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-section. Fig. 4 is a front view, showing that the clip-plate is allowed to rise and fall while confined to the back C. It represents the clips or spurs (more or less in number) connected by tongues 02 with one or more plates, 1', which are made adjustable on the bed B by means of slots in the bed, for the purpose of accommodating different sizes of sheets or. papers; or, in other words, so that both the clips h of each plate may be put through the sheets, but at such point that they (the sheets) will be held securely. The clips it stand vertical, and are pointed and pass through holes J in the clip-plate D as the latter is pressed down onto the paper to be filed. These clips are moved by the triangular tongues at when the plates 1' are moved, as the tongue forms part of those plates. K is a bow-spring of steel or other suitable material, confined at its center to the fin ger-piece L, which is attached to the lug E of the clip-plate D. M is a horizontal thumbpiece on the top of the back 0. The
ends of the spring K are confined to the back by the hooks O O. The clip-plate D is raised for the filing of a letter or paper by drawing the finger-piece L upward while bearing upon the thumb-piece M.
In Figs. 1 and 3 the clip-plate is represented as down onto the adjustable triangular tongues 02, upon which the lower paper rests, and which forms a part of the plates I and move the clips laterally in either direction when those plates are moved.
In Fig. 4 the clip-plate is represented as raised to its highest point.
I do not confine myself to the precise form or arrangement of any of the parts described,
as they may be varied without departing from my invention.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A paper-file, consisting of frame A B C, plate D E, tongue-plates h t n, spring K, finger L, and thumb-piece M, each constructed and arranged substantially as described.
CHARLES D. LINDSEY.
