MORRIS HERZBERG, OF WESTPOINT, GEORGIA.
LETTER-FILE.-
SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 267,890, dated November 21, 1882.
Application filed September 14,1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, MORRIS HERZBERG, of West Point, in the county of Troup and State of Georgia, have invented a new and Improved Letter-File, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved letter-file which is so constructed that the curved locking-pins will be out of the way when letters and other papers Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a perspective view of my improved letter-file, showing it closed. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same, showing it opened.
Two tubes, A, having their upper ends beveled to form points project upward from a board, B, and between the said tubes A and the nearest transverse edge of, the board two thin rods or wires, 0, project upward, the wires 0 being about the same height as the tubes A. Two curved wires or rods, D, project upward from a strip, G, which rests on the board B, and is connected. by means of two pivoted links, E, with a strip, F, fixed on the board parallel with the transverse edge, and to which strip F the link-pieces E are also pivoted. The strip G can be moved from the fixed strip F and in the direction of its length, and will always be parallel with the strip F. Thecurved wires D are so arranged and of such size that when the strip G rests against the strip F the upper ends of the wires D will pass into the one end of the strip G the wires D will be moved from the ends of the tubes A, and the sheets H to be filed can be placed on the board B, the tubes A passing through the said sheets. The wires 0 form guides against which the edges of the sheets are rested, so that all the sheets will be pierced by the tubes A a like distance from the edge. When the file is closed-that is, when the ends of the wires D are in the ends of the tubes A-no papers or sheets can be removed from or placed on the same.
I prefer to use no springs, but, if desired, springs may be used to hold the strip Gr against the strip F, so that the file remains closed automatically.
I prefer to use the tubes A, as it facilitates binding the filed papers; but wires may be used in place of them, if desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, I I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1 1. In a letter-file, the curved wires D, made fast at the bottom in a sliding piece, G, whereby they may be moved to and from the tubes A, as described.
2. In a letter-file, the combination, with the board B, of the tubes or pins A, the strip G,
the links E, and the curved locking-wires D on the strip G, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a letter-file, the combination, with the board B, of the tubes or pins A, the fixed strip F, the movable strip G, the links E, and the curved locking-wires D on the strip Gr, substantially as herein shown and'described, and
for the purpose set forth.
MORRIS HERZBERG.
