Description

- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD F. ANGELL, OFOHIOAGO, ILLINOIS.
BOOK-LEAF OR PAPER HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 400,627, dated April 2, 1889.
, Application led Ianuary l5, 1887. Serial No. 224,500. (No model.)
To all whom it moi/y concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD F. ANGELI., of Chicago, in the county of Oook and State of Illinois, a citizen of the United States, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Book-Marks and Leaf-Holders, of which the following, in connection with the accompanying sheet of drawings, is a full, clear, and accurate specification.
My invention consists of a single strap of spring metal of peculiar shape doubled and so formed at the opening end that the thing to be received therein may be easily inserted and tightly held.
The utility of my invention consists in its adaptability to hold together book-leaves, to serve as a book-mark, to take the place of pins, to hold together two or more pieces of paper.- as, for instance,- a letter and check received together-to attach price or other tickets to fine fabrics which would be .injured if perforated with afpin,a`nd for many similar purposes.
lletters'of reference indicate like parts.
Figure 1 in said drawings shows my invention in use on a book. Fig. 2 shows my invention in use to attach a ticket to a ribbon. Fig. 3 is a face plan of my invention. Fig. 4
is a longitudinal sectional view of my invention.
In Figs. 3 and 4c I have shown niy invention enlarged about three times from the size I consider most desirable.
In the several figures, A represents the upper and anged side of my invention, and A the lower or straight side thereof. The lower side, A', extends outward somewhat farther than the upper side, A, forming a ledge whereon to support the thing to be inserted, while the upper side,l A, being slightly curved or flanged, guides the thing to be inserted between the two parts, which spring together and hold the thing tightly.
In Fig. l my invention is shown in use to hold together a number of the leaves of the book B, and also to attach paper C to some of the leaves.
Having thus described the construction, operation, and utility of my invention, I therefore claim as my invention- A A book-mark and leaf-holder consisting of a piece of fiat metal bent or folded to form two lips of unequal length, the shorter lip curved upwardly and the longer lip flat, as described.
In witness of the above I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EDWARD F. ANGELL.
