UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN BUSTED, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
PAPER-FILE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 341,482, dated May 11, 1886.
Application filed November 17, 1885. Serial No. 183,138.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN HUsTED, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Files, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to the class of paperfiles or bill-holders having a pointed wire for impaling the several bills, memoranda, invoices, &c., and which are either arranged to stand on a foot or to be suspended to the wall; and it consists in providing such paper-files with an extension, arm, or bracket that bears the rigid or exchangeable inscription of the word or character indicating the particular kind of papers filed thereon, all as hereinafter will be more fully described and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a standing file provided with my improvement, and Fig. 2 a perspective view of a suspended file, also provided with my improvement.
In Fig. 1, A denotes the foot or base, and- B the impaling-wire. C is a curved arm secured to or forming part of base A, which arm may be either stamped of sheet metal or cast with such base, and which to its upper extremity has formed paralled grooves or lips a a, between which can be inserted from either side a card or slip of paper, to be securely held therein, and upon this card or slip b can be written or marked any word or character indicating the particular class of papers to be impaled on the wire B.
In Fig. 2, D is the wall-plate, having a hole,
(No model.)
- providing grooves or lips a or e, for inserting a card, I can cast, stamp, paint, or emboss upon the arm or extension the word or character indicating the kind of papers the file is to hold, and therefore I do not wish to be restricted to the device as shown and described;
neither do I wish to be restricted to any particular shape or manner of construction of the arms 0 or extensions F, which may be varied in many ways.
The advantages of the above improvement will be readily seen, since a merchant or manufacturer can easily file the many kinds of commercial papers and memoranda, each kind separate, where again he knows at sight to find any one paper he may require for reference.
' \Vhat I claim is- The combination, in a paper-file or billholder and with the base and impaling-wire thereof, of an arm, 0, secured to the base and extending upwardly therefrom, and provided with suitable holding-prongs, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHRISTIAN HUSIED.
