UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK L. DANFORTH, OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN.
FILE-WRAPPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part Cf Letters Patent No. 713,071, dated November 11, 1902. Application filed March 24, 1902. Serial No. 99.640. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK L. DANFORTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in File-Wrappers;.and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in file-wrappers; and its object is to provide a file-wrapper to which the various documents and papers filed therein may be readily attached or detached, as occasion requires, and to provide the same with certain new and useful features, hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
My device consists, essentially, of a suitable piece of material forming the outer wrapper of the file, to which is permanently attached a suitable fastener, by means of which the documents or papers are readily secured to the wrapper or detached'therefrom, as oocasion requires, as will more fully appear by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- I Figure 1 is a perspective of a deviceembodying my invention; Fig. 2, an enlarged detail in section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a side elevation of the metallic portion of the device, and Fig. 4 a plan view of the same.
Like letters refer to like parts in all of the figures.
Arepresents a sheet of paper or other suitable material to form the outer wrapper of the file and of any convenient dimensions.
B represents a portion of suitable paper or cloth, or both combined, permanentl y attached to the sheet A, by means of which the docu-.
ment-fastener of the device is securely attached to the same and preferably near one corner thereof.
The metallic parts of the device consist of a thin disk 0,- located between the parts A and B. This disk is provided with two suitable slots 0 near the middle and arranged parallel to each other and a short distance apart. In these slots is inserted the ends D D of a strip of suitable metal adapted to be repeatedly bent without breaking. The middle portion E of this strip extends along the under side of the disk 0 and close to the same. The strip thence extends inward on the opposite side of the disk, as at E, and thence in parallel planes vertically from the disk. The parts D D of this strip project through the portion 13. I prefer also to provide the disk 0 with a corrugated periphery, as shown in Fig. 4:, which prevents rotation of the disk, and consequently enlargement of the opening in the part B.
In using this device the projecting portions D D of the strip of metal are thrust through the corner of any document or paper that is filed and then bent down on the surface of the same and the document thus secured to the wrapper. The document is readily detached by bending the parts D D to their original position, in which position additional documents can also be attached to the file.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a file-Wrapper the combination of a suitable sheet of material, a metallic disk having two slots therein, a strip of metal having its ends inserted through the slots, and its middle portion in contact with the disk and thence extending along the surface of the disk on the side opposite said middle portion, and thence vertically from the center of the disk, and means for securing the same to said sheet, substantially as described.
2. In a file-wrapper, the combination of a thin metallic disk having a corrugated edge and two parallel slots at each side of its center, a strip of metal having its middle portion in contact with the surface of the disk and its ends extended through the slots and thence inward to the middle of the disk, and thence vertically from the disk in parallel planes, and a sheet of paper at one side of the disk, and a suitable piece of material at the other side of the disk and secured to the sheet of paper and having an opening through which the vertically-projecting parts of the metal .extend, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK L. DAN'FORTH.
