This invention relates to pocketbooks and one object of the invention is to provide a pocketbook having associated therewith a card carrier so constructed that a transparent holder or cover for a card, or a card without a holder, or stubs or sheet pivotally designed, may be pivotally mounted at an upper corner for swinging movement outwardly and upwardly from a pocket or corner strap into which its lower portion ts, to an extended position in which the card or other pivotally mounted article may be displayed for inspection or notations written thereon, if so desired.

Another object of the invention is to so form the cards and the member for pivotally connecting the pivot carriers to the same that they will be of simple and very e'icient construction.

The pocketbook shown in Fig. l has a main section or body I, formed of leather or the like, the lower portion of which forms a ap 2 adapted to be folded upwardly to rest against and cover the body I. A tongue 3 extends from the upper end of the body for engagement with the ap 2 and releasably holding the flap closed. A sheet 4 is stitched along one side edge to the bod,7 I and free along its remaining edges and this sheet carries a sheet 5 which is free along its upper and lower ends to dene a pocket G open at both ends. A cross strip or sheet I0 formed of leather is stitched along its upper and lower edges to the lstrip or sheet I with its portions II and I2 projecting laterally' therefrom to provide an auxiliary body portion and a closure flap, said auxiliary body portion II and flap I2 carrying fastener members I 3 by means of which they are releasably held one upon the other in covering relation to the ilap 2. The space between the crossed portions of the sheets or strips I and I0 forms a pocket I4 adapted to receive paper money, cards, or the like, and has its outer end closed by the ilap I2. A sheet I5 is secured along its marginal edges to the auxiliary body I I and, Vtogether therewith, forms a pocket open along its inner side edge or corner strap and adapted toreceive pivotal cards and the like. There has also been provided a triangular sheet I 5 corresponding to sheet 'l and secured along its margins to sheet I5 to form a pocket open n along the diagonally extending edge of this sheet. A sheet of transparent material I8 is secured along its side edges to flap 2 and is free at its upper and lower ends so that an identification card or the like I9 may be thrust into place under this transparent sheet, where it may be seen when the ap 2 is in the open position shown in Fig. 1.

In order to carry cards, sheets, drivers permits, and the like, which should be moved to an extended position so that they may be easily inspected or coupons detached therefrom, there has been provided a holder or sheet 20 having The sheet 20 is carried by a stiff backing sheet 23 which is slipped into place under the sheet 5, as shown in Fig. 4, with its upper portion projecting upwardly therefrom. The upper portion of the backing sheet or carrier 23 is folded forwardly and downwardly to provide a flap or lip 24 carrying a mounting member 25 to which the pivotal card or the like is attached. This mounting mem-ber is formed of sheet material which may be plastic or other suitable material and has resiliency. One end portion of the strip of material from which the mounting member 25 is formed is reduced in width to provide a portion 26 which is bent back in spaced relation to itself and further reduced in width to form a tongue 21 which extends longitudinally of the mounting member and has sulicient flexibility to permit it to be passed through openings 28 and 29 after being passed through an opening 30 formed in an upper corner portion of the pivotal card 20 and through an opening 3I 3 formed in the flap 24. By this arrangement of parts, the base portion of the mounting 25 will reinforce the flap 24 to which it is secured by a thread 32 passing through openings 33 at the opposite end of the mounting 25 from the bent portion 26. Normally, the pivotal cards are disposed in the corner pocket 8 or corner strap, but when the card or the like is to be displayed, the pivotal card is swung about the tongue 21 toward the extended position shown in Fig. 3, and the pivotal card will be in full view. If desired, the pivotal cards or sheets may be swung out of the pocket or corner strap 8 and then turned upwardly together with the flap 24. While it has been stated that the backing 23 is stii, it will preferably be formed of leather and reinforced by a sheet of stii cardboard 34.

Fig. 9 illustrates a pocketbook 41 open along the edges 46 to receive paper money, checks, or the like, and provided with a closure 49 having a portion creased to form a flap 50 carrying a tongue 5l by means of which the flap is held closed. The inner Wall of the pocketbook is formed near one end with transverse slits 52 to receive a backing sheet 53 for a pivotal pad of bank checks which may be used for different bank checking plans now being used. This backing sheet is formed lof leather reinforced by a sheet of stiff cardboard and the upper end of the sheet of leather is folded to form a ap or lip 54 against which a strip 55 of stiif sheet material is secured. This strip corresponds to strip 25 and has one end portion bent to`form a bend 56 carrying a tongue 51 which is passed through an opening 58 formed through..the binding 59 of a'pivotal pad of bank checks 60. When a check is to be lled in, the pad of checks is swung transversely about the tongue 51 to extended position at one side of the pocketbook and, after the check has been torn from its stub, the pad is returned to itsnormal position over the backing sheet 53.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:

1. A device of the character described comprising a body, a flap carried by said body in overlying relation thereto and formed with an "opening, a strip against said flap formed withY an opening registering with the opening in theiap and with a second opening spaced from the rst opening longitudinally of the strip, and sai'dstrip having a tongue passing through the registering openings to extend through and pivotally mount a perforated member and bent to extend longitudinally of lsaid strip with a portion passedoutwardly through the second opening of the strip and conned between the flap and strip.

2. A device of the character described comprising a body, a flap carried by said body in overlying relation thereto and formed with an opening, a strip against said flap formed with an opening registering with the opening in the ap and with a second opening spaced from the first opening longitudinally of the strip, one end portion of said strip being bent to form a bend straddling one end of the flap, and a tongue carried by said bend, said tongue being threaded through the registering openings to extend through and pivotally mount a perforated member for swinging movement about the tongue and then extending longitudinally of the strip and through the second opening thereof with its free end portion coniined between the strip and iiap.

3. vA device of the character described comprising a body, a ap carried by said body in overlying relation thereto and formed with an opening, a strip against said flap formed with an opening registering with the opening in the ap and with a second opening spaced from the first opening longitudinally of the strip, one end portion of said strip being reduced in width and bent back lto form a bend and additionally reduced in Width to Aform an .elongated tongue passed through the registering openings to extend through and pivotally mount a perforated member for swinging movement about the tongue to extended position, the tongue being then extended longitudinally of said strip and through the second opening therein to hold the tongue against accidental displacement.
