PATENT ()FFICE.
PAPER-FILE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 735,710, dated August 11, 1903.
Application filed August 28, 1902. $erial No. 121,378. (No model.)
To all whom; it may concern;
Be it known that I, SIEGM ND CHIGER, engineer, a subject ofithe German Emperor, and a resident of Gross-Lichterfelde, near Berlin, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Paper-Files, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to paper-files, the construction of which is improved in such a manner that it is possible to open the file in the same manner as a book is opened, so that the papers inserted in the file can'be turned over and entirely read, which was not possible with the files of known constructions.
In the accompanying drawings the improved paper-file is shown.
Figure 1 is a front view of the filing device proper. Fig.2 is a section through'Fig'l. Fig. 3 is a back view of Fig. 1, and Fig; 4 1s a side View of an open file.
In the cover a, which can be of any size and shape and can be made of any suitable material, a holding-strip b, of thick paper, cardboard, thin sheet metal, or any other suitable material, is fastened in such a manner that one part of it can be turned over like a leaf. As shown in the drawings, the holding-strip 1) consists of a piece of cardboard, one part of which is gummed .to the inner side of the cover a.
filed has to be provided with similar holes Z i the well-known manner.
The papers d to be filed are fastened in the file by means of two fastening-bands g 70," of sheet metal, which have at both ends small and long arms or prolongations f h, respectively. The fastening-band 7c is provided in its center part with a longitudinal slot '5. The fastening-bands are used as follows: The arms'h of the slotted band 70 are passed from the back of the holding-strip I) through the outer holes 6. The papers 01 to be filed are placed on the projecting ends it of the band It In the holding-strip 1) four holes 6 are provided, and each of the papers d to be and are secured in their position by means of the front band g, the armsf of which are passed through the inner holes in the papers (1 and in the holding-strip b and through the slot t of the back band 70. The ends of the bands are flattened automatically when the cover a is closed. If one Wants to read one of the papers filed, it is only necessary to bend both fastening-bands, whereupon the filed papers can be folded up like the leaves of a book. To remove one of the filed papers, it is only necessary to take off all the papers which lie on the paper to be removed,
together with the front band, whereupon the paper to be removed can be taken out of the file, and the other papers are reinserted without any difficulty.
" Having fullyde'scribed my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Improved paper-file comprising in combination with the usual cover, a holding-strip of suitable material connected with the inner side of the cover, four holes in said holdingstrip, one fastening-band of thin sheet metal with small prolongations at both ends to be inserted fromthe front end of the holdingstrip through the inner holes, another fastening-band of thin sheet metal with small arms at both ends to be inserted from the back of the holdingstrip through the outer holes and (SIEGMUND oriIeER.
