UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
FRANK BOWMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN SCRAP-BOOKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 185,482, dated December 19, 1876; application filed October 18, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK BOWMAN, of 119 William Street, New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrap-Books and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention relates to scrapbooks and it consists in connecting strips or sheets of gummed paper to the guards now commonly employed between the leaves of the book, all as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my inventiorr appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a scrapbook embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an end or top view of the same.
A represents the cover, B the leaves, and G the intermediate guards, of a scrap-book, the guards being made of cloth, paper, or other suitable material. To the guards O are fastened scrap-fasteners, which consist either of strips D or sheets E of paper, gummed on both sides. These strips or sheets may be perforated, so as to be easily separated in such lengths as may be desired, and, by wetting the same on both sides, the scraps can easily be attached to the leaves B, as shown in Fig. 1 or such strips or sheets may be left whole, as shown at G, and strips or pieces cut oil as required.
The number of such strips or sheets connected to each book will, of course, depend upon the size of the book; and they may be connected to the guards between the diflerent leaves, or at one place in the book, or in any manner deemed most advantageous.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A scrap-book composed of ungummed leaves, and provided with strips or sheets of paper gummed on both sides, and attached in the book, so that the latter can be cut or torn ofi' in strips, and the pictures or scrap-printing attached to the ungummed leaves by means of said strips, substantially for the purposes herein set forth.
2. A leaf of paper gummed on both sides, and perforated so as to be torn off in strips of any desired length for scrap-fasteners, as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 11th day of October, 1876.
FRANK BOWMAN.
