Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY A. BIOKFORD, OF SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
CARD-RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 342,316, dated May 25, 1886.
Application filedj'une 27, 1884. Serial No. 136,130. (No model.(
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY A. BIOKFORD, of Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Gard-Racks, of which the following is a specification, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, in which Figures 1 and 2 are front views of my device. Fig. Sis a back view, and Figs. 4, 5, and 6 are detailed views.
The construction will be readily understood on reference to the drawings.
The pieces of which the rack is composed consist of sheets, preferably of pasteboard, because of its chcapness, cut approximately in the shape shown in Figs. 5 and 6, those of the shape shown in Fig. 6 being used for the ends after being thus shaped. The edges are interlocked, as shown in the drawings, and
' the whole held together by a strip of paper,
cloth, or other material, cl,pasted on the back, or by strips pasted upon the sides. This serves to prevent the pieces being drawn apart, while the interlocking of the pieces in the manner shown serves to prevent their being separated in any other direction, and, by their overlapping, form the card-holding portion or recess.
The parts may be held together by the use of rivets, if desired.
By this construction a cheap and simple interlocking cardholder is constructed, which may be so cheaply gotten up as to become de sirable for advertising purposes, while the ornamentation may be carried to great extent without increasing the expense. One method of ornamentation is to make the parts of different color, and another to change the form of the ends or of the interlocking portions. Any sort of sheet material may of course be used,
,and the blanks be cut of various shapes, to
give the desired ornamentation.
I am aware that an interlocking card-rack constructed of pieces of wire bent to be hooked together has heretofore been made, and I make no claim to such construction.
Having therefore described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A card-rack consisting of two or more blanks, I), having wedge-shaped cuts in each corner, as shown, the said pieces being interlocked in the manner specified, and having a means, as rivets, to prevent separation, substantially as set forth.
2. A series of blanks, b, having diagonal cuts i at each corner, whereby the blanks are interlocked, and a holdingstrip, d, all constructed and operating as shown.
HENR T A. BIGKFORD.
