LEAP POR PHOTOGRAPH ALBUMS. No. 290,648. Patented Deo. 1a, 188s.

Y' UNITED STATES RICHARD MOSER, OF
ATENT ERICE,
BERLIN, GERMANY.
LEAF FOR PHOTOGRAPHL-ALBUMS.
SPECIFICATION forming` part of Letters Patent No, 290,648, dated December 18, 1883.
Application tiled May 1S, 1883. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD MosER, of Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia, and Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Leaves for Photograph-Albums, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to an improved leaf for photograph albums, by which the photograph is retained in a reliable manner, and by which it may be inserted or removed without injury to the leaf; and the invention consists of a leaf for photograph-albums, made of an intermediate layer or frame of cardboard having an opening of greater length than the photograph, and face-layers of cardpaper having transverse slits and depressed portions between the slits, said depressed portions forming a separating-layer between the photographs, so as to facilitate the insertion or removal of the same.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a vertical transverse section, Fig. 2 a front elevation, and Fig. 3 avertical transverse section, of my improved leaf for photograph-albums.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My improved photograph-album leaf consists of an intermediate layer or frame7 A, of suitable card-board, into which is cut an oblong opening, a. b c d, of somewhat greater length than that of the photograph f gh i, that is to be inserted into the leaf. The layer Ais covered at both sides with finished card-paper A A2, into which are eut transverse slits B O and D E. The face-layers A A2 are next eX- posed at 4that portion inelosed between the slits B C and D E, and the longer sides a d and b c of the opening a b c d to the pressure of dies of corresponding shape, by which the middle portions of the face-layers A and A2 are depressed and brought closely back to back to each other, as shown in Figs. l and 3, so as to form thereby panels at each side of the leaf for the photographs.
-When it is desired to insert a photograph, its edge f g is first inserted into the slit B C and moved up until the edge f g abuts against the edge a b rof the frame A. The lower edge, t' h, of the photograph is then somewhat above the slit D E, and can then be inserted through the latter and pushed down until it abuts against the edge d c of the frame A. In this manner the photograph is securely held in position and inserted without injury to the leaf. The photograph is removed from the leaf by reversing the operation described.
In my improved album leaf, the photographs are supported by the depressed middle portions of the face-layers A A2, which middle portions are integral with the outer portions of the face-layers, that cannot be torn or removed, as is generally the case with the loose intermediate layers or sheets in the photograph-albums heretofore in use. The shifting or dropping out of the photographs from the leaf is entirely prevented, and a neater and more durable leaf for photograph-albums thereby obtained.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. Aleaf for photograph-albums, consisting of an intermediate layer of card-board, having an oblong opening of greater length than the photograph, and of face-layers having transverse slits and depressed portions between the slits, said depressed portions being made integral with the face-layers, substantially as set forth.
2. A leaf for photograph-albums, in which the separating layer or sheet between the pictures is formed by depressed portions of the face-layers of the leaf, substantially as specifred.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my inventionI have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
RICHARD MOSER.
