IMPROVEMENT iN ALBUMS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 163,2 12, dated May 11, 1875; application filed March 10, 1875.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANZ FRIEDRICH KULLRIOH, of Berlin, Prussia, have invented certain Improvements in Photograph-Albums, of which the following is a specification:

The object of myinvention is to so construct the leaves of photograph-albums that card pictures can be introduced into their places and removed therefrom more readily than in ordinary albums.

This object I attain in the manner which I will now proceed to describe, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a front view, partly in section,ot' the leaf of a photograph-album made according to my invention; Fig. 2, a sectional View on the line 1 2, drawn to an enlarged scale; and Fig. 3, a perspective View, illustrating my invention.

The leaf is made, as usual, of three stripsnamely, the outer strips or and a, of stout paper, and the intermediate strip b, of pasteboard, the openings in the outer strips being less in size than the opening in the intermediate strip, so that grooves are presented for the reception of card pictures.

Considerable difficulty is experienced in properly adjusting the cards in, and especially in withdrawing them from, the leaves as constructed in the ordinarymanner, and the lower edgeof theleaf is disfigured by the slit through which the picture is in most cases inserted.

In some albums openings are made in the faces of the outer strips below the main opening for admitting the pictures, the introduction of which is liable to tear the narrow strip of paper between the two openings. In any case the autograph or title of the picture OOH]- monly printed near the lower edge of the card is hidden. In order to obviate these objections I enlarge the opening of each outer strip at the lower end as, this portion of the opening being in fact as Wide as that in theintermediate strip 12, so that the card picture can be introduced into its place from either face of the leaf. A lip, n, of thin paper, attached to each of the outer strips cm at the lower edge of the opening, extends upward into the latter, the upper portions of the lips occupying a position between the two card pictures m m, Fig.2, so that each picture on its withdrawal will slide freely over the said strip a.

It will be seen that when the card pictures are in their places their titles or autographs are always exposed.

I claim as my invention- The combination of the enlargements at in the openings of the strips a and a of a photograph-album leaf, with strips n 72 arranged to underlap the inserted pictures, as and for the purpose specified.
