INNER WALL WITH A DISPLAY OPENING AND ADVERT PANEL FOR A PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION VEHICLE
TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION [0001] The present invention relates to an inner wall of a public transportation vehicle. It relates more particularly to an inner wall to be used as support for a removable signalisation or advert sign, such as a poster.
BACKGROUND ART [0002] Inner walls of public transportation vehicles, in particular the side and end walls of metros between or above the windows and the doors, are usually used as display surfaces for signalisation of advertisement purposes. In order to easily replace such signs, the walls are provided with hinged frames, which can be opened and closed with a key. As the system includes moving parts, it necessitates a specific maintenance. The operation for replacing a sign is relatively complex. The system is rather costly.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION [0003] The invention aims to provide a simplified arrangement for supporting a removable sign on an inner wall of a public transportation vehicle.
[0004] According to a first aspect of the invention, there is provided an inner wall for a public transportation vehicle comprising a front frame and a rear panel, the front frame surrounding a display opening, the front frame having two parallel slide edges facing one another, an insertion edge substantially perpendicular to the slide edges, an end edge perpendicular to the slide edges, the end edge and insertion edge facing one another, the insertion edge having a length greater than a distance between the two slide edges, and two slant edges extending each between an end of the insertion edge and an end of an associated one of the two slide edges, the rear panel being substantially parallel to and at a distance from the front frame and extending at least from the end edge to the insertion edge and from one of the slide edges to the other, and from one of the slant edges to the other, such that two slide slots are formed between each of the slide edges and the rear panel.
[0005] The front frame constitutes a fixed frame for a flat display panel, which can be inserted into the two parallel slide slots through an insertion opening formed between the slanted edges and the insertion edge.
[0006] The slide slots should have dimensions that are sufficient to guide and retain the sides of the display panel. In particular:
- The slide slots have a width measured between the front frame and the rear panel, which is between 1 mm and 10 mm. The width should preferably be substantially the same as the thickness of the display panel. If the display panel comprises a soft layer, it may be advantageous to have a slight interference between the slide slots and the display panel.
- The slide slots have a depth, measured in a direction parallel to the rear panel and perpendicular to the slide edges, which is greater than 1 mm, preferably greater than 5 mm.
- The difference between the length of the insertion edge and the distance between the slide walls is greater than 2 mm, preferably greater than 5 mm, preferably greater than 10 mm.
- At least one, and preferably each of the slide slots, has a bottom wall extending at a distance from the slide edge, perpendicular to the rear panel and parallel to the slide edges. The bottom of the slide slots is a guide surface for guiding the insertion of the display panel. After insertion, it contributes to the proper positioning of the display panel in the opening.
[0007] Advantageously, the rear panel extends under the insertion edge, such that a retention slot is formed between the insertion edge and the rear panel. According to a preferred embodiment, the retention slot has a bottom wall extending at a distance from the insertion edge, perpendicular to the rear panel, the retention slot having a depth, measured in a direction parallel to the rear panel and perpendicular to the retention edge, which is preferably greater than 5 mm, preferably greater than 10 mm. The bottom of the retention slot can be used as a support for the display panel.
[0008] Preferably, the rear panel extends under the end edge, such that an end slot is formed between the end edge and the rear panel, the end slot having a depth, measured in a direction parallel to the rear panel and perpendicular to the end edge, which is greater than the depth of the retention slot. When the display panel is inserted into the slide slots, an end rim of the display panel moves towards the end edge and penetrates the end slots until the whole display panel, from the end rim to an opposite retention rim, is within the opening. In this intermediate position, the retention rim of the display panel is at a distance from the insertion edge. The display panel is then moved backwards from this intermediate position until the retention rim of the display panel enters the retention slot. Ideally, the dimensions of the display panel are such that when the retention rim of the display panel bears against the bottom wall of the retention slot, the end rim is still in the end slot.
[0009] According to one embodiment, the inner wall further comprises a removable display panel, the display panel having two parallel rims at a distance from one another, which is less than the length of the insertion edge and greater than the distance between the slide edges, the parallel rims of the display panel being inserted in the slide slots. Preferably, the removable display panel has an end rim inserted in the end slot and a retention rim inserted in the retention slot and preferably resting against the bottom of the retention slot.
[0010] The inner wall has an upright operational position in the public transportation vehicle, and the retention edge is closer to a lower end of the inner wall than the end edge. Preferably, the retention edge is horizontal.
[0011] According to one embodiment, the rear panel is provided with a access cover accessible through the display opening and giving access to a recess of the inner wall. The access cover can be e.g. a hinged door, a sliding door or a removable panel clipped or otherwise secured to the rear panel, e.g. with one or several quick release locks. The access cover is preferably flush with the rear panel. The recess can be used for housing technical components of the vehicle, e.g. an electrical switchboard or a pneumatic valve.
[0012] According to one embodiment, the rear panel and front frame are substantially planar, at least in a region of the display opening. Planar inner walls are located e.g. at the ends of a car body or between the access doors and the windows.
[0013] According to another embodiment, the rear panel and front frame are curved in a region of the display opening. Curved inner walls are located e.g. at the junctions between the side walls and the ceiling of the car body, e.g. above the windows or doors.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS [0016] With reference to figures 1 to 4, an inner wall 10 for a public transportation vehicle comprises a front panel which forms a front frame 12, a rear panel 14, and a rectangular spacer 16 between the front and rear panels such that the front and rear panels are parallel to one another and at a short distance from one another. Both the front and the rear panels are planar. Such an inner wall can be located at an end of a car body or between an access door and a window.
[0017] The front frame surrounds a substantially rectangular display opening 18. The front frame has two parallel slide edges 20 facing one another, an insertion edge 22 substantially perpendicular to the slide edges 20, and an end edge 24 perpendicular to the slide edges, which faces the insertion edge 22. The insertion edge 22 has a length L greater than the distance W between the two slide edges 20. Two slant edges 26 join the insertion edge 22 and the two slide edges 20. The difference between the length L of the insertion edge 22 and the distance W between the slide edges is greater than 2 mm, preferably greater than 5 mm, preferably greater than 10 mm.
[0018] The rectangular spacer 16 surrounds the display opening 18, at a distance from the side edges 20, slant edges 26, insertion edge 22 and end edge 24. The rear panel 14 is rectangular and supports the spacer 16. The distance E between the front and rear panels is preferably greater than 1mm and less than 10 mm.
[0019] Two slide slots 30 are formed between each of the slide edges 20 and the rear panel 14. Each of the slide slots 30 has a bottom wall 31 formed by a corresponding face of the rectangular spacer 16, perpendicular to the rear panel 14 and parallel to the slide edges 20. The slide slots 30 have a depth D, measured in a direction parallel to the rear panel 14 and perpendicular to the slide edges 20, from the bottom wall 31 to the slide edge 20, which is greater than 1 mm, preferably greater than 5 mm.
[0020] The rear panel 14 extends under the insertion edge 22, such that a retention slot 32 is formed between the insertion edge 22 and the rear panel 14. The retention slot has a bottom wall 33 extending at a distance from the insertion edge 22, perpendicularly to the rear panel 14. The retention slot 32 has a depth F, measured in a direction parallel to rear panel 14 and perpendicular to the retention edge 22, which is preferably greater than 5 mm, preferably greater than 10 mm.
[0021] Similarly, the rear panel 14 extends under the end edge 24, such that an end slot 34 is formed between the end edge 24 and the rear panel 14. The end slot 34 has a bottom wall 35 extending at a distance from the end edge 24, perpendicularly to the rear panel 14. The end slot 34 has a depth G, measured in a direction parallel to rear panel 14 and perpendicular to the end edge 24, which is greater than the depth F of the retention slot 32.
[0022] The somewhat larger lower portion of the display opening 18 between the two slant edges 26 forms an insertion opening 36 for a removable display panel 38, as illustrated in figures 5 to 9.
[0023] The removable display panel 38 is rectangular with two parallel slide rims 40, a retention rim 42 and an end rim 44. Its width WP measured between the two slide rims 30 is greater than the distance W between the slide edges 20 but less than the distance between the bottom walls 31 of the slide slots 30 and less than the length L of the insertion edge 22, and its length LP, measured between the end rim 44 and the retention rim 42 is greater than the distance between the bottom wall 33 of the retention slot 32 and the end edge 24, but less than the distance between the insertion edge 22 of the retention slot 32 and the bottom wall 35 of the end slot 34.
[0024] The removable display panel 38 is initially presented with the end rim 44 facing the insertion opening 36 as shown in figure 5, then inserted into the opening and the slide slots 30 as illustrated in figure 6. The display panel 38 translates along the slide slots 30 in the upward direction through the position of figure 7 up to the position of figure 8, in which the display panel 38 does not overlap the insertion edge 22 any more. From that position, the display panel 38 is released and falls (or is pushed) downward into the retention slot 32, to reach the final position of figure 9, in which the retention rim 22 bears against the bottom wall 33 of the retention slot 32.
[0025] The length LP of the display panel 38 is such that in the final position, its rims 40, 42, 44 are overlapped by the edges 20, 22, 24 of the front panel 12 and are not visible.
[0026] The display panel 38 may comprise a soft layer, e.g. a paper or cardboard layer, in which case its thickness can be slightly greater than the distance E between the front and rear panel, so that the soft layer can be slightly compressed in the slots. Otherwise, the thickness of the display panel should preferably be slightly less than the distance E between the front and rear panels.
[0027] The inner wall of figure 10 differs from the previous embodiment in that the rear panel 14 is provided with an access cover, in this instance a door 50 hinged to the rear panel 14, which closes an access to a recess in the wall of the public transportation vehicle, e.g. for an electrical switchboard, a pneumatic valve or another technical component of the vehicle.
[0028] The embodiment illustrated in figure 11 differs from the previous embodiments in that the front frame and rear panel. This curved inner wall can be located at the junctions between the side walls and the ceiling of the car body, e.g. above the windows or doors. The insertion edge 22 of the front frame 12 is formed by a fold of the rear panel 14. The end edge 24 of the front frame 12 can also be formed by a fold of the rear panel 14 or by an independent profile. The insertion edge 22 and end edge 24 are used to maintain the slide edges 20.
[0029] While the above example illustrates a preferred embodiment of the present invention it is noted that various other arrangements can also be considered.
[0030] In all embodiments, the insertion edge is preferably horizontal and located below the end edge. However, other orientations are possible.
[0031] The front and rear panels are preferably made of sheet metal. The rectangular spacer can be made in one or several parts, and can be glued to the front and/or rear panels. The bottom wall 35 of the end slot 34 can be omitted, in which case the spacer would have a U-shape. The bottom walls 31 of the slide slots 30 can also be omitted.
