DEVICE FOR HOLDING BILLS AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 81, 1908.
Application filed December 21, 1907, Serial No. 407,512.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AXEL T. KINDWALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Al bert City, in the county of Buena Vista and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Device for Holding Bills and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to devices for holding bills and similar documents and it leaf ol flexible material such, for instance, as
linen or heavy paper with a series of apertures cut therein and. a spring clasp located at each aperture. The clasps are of peculiar configuration and are held in position in the openings provided in the sheet by a transversely disposed thread or other flexible securing means which is attached at its ends to the sheet and passes through an intermediate coiled portion of the clasp. The end portions of the clasp are of such relative arrangement that they may be readily separated for the insertion of bills, etc.
Figure 1. is a side elevation of a portion of a sheet provided with the holders, and Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the sheet showing the holder in edge elevation.
The device consists of the sheet 1 which is provided at suitable intervals with openings 2. A clasp 3 is located at each opening and is provided with an intermediate coiled portion 4 which lies in the opening 2. The thread or similar securing device 5 is attached at its ends to the sheet 1 and passes through the coiled portion 4 of the clasp and serves as a means for preventing the coiled portion of the clasp from becoming displaced with relation to the sheet and the opening 2 thereof within which it is located. The end portions 6, 6 of the clasp 3 extend in the same general direction and are adapted to bear against opposite sides of the sheet 1,- while the end portions 6, 6 are of substantially the same configuration they are reversely disposed in lateral areas included within their perimeters. That is to say, while they lie directly opposite each other throughout the greater portions of their areas they each have an end portion which extends beyond the edge of the opposite portion. The said projecting end portions are designated as 7.
The clasps 3 are preferably made of spring wire which possesses su'l'licient resiliency to permit of the introduction of bills or similar documents between either of the end portions 6 and the sides of the sheet 1. Thus the said sheet 1 may serve at both of its sides as a means for holding the bills and the clasps serve in common as means for holding the bills against opposite sides of the sheet. By such an arrangement a sheet may be divided by printed or imaginary lines into a number of spaces within each of which is located an opening 2 and a clasp 8. When bills are alphabetically or otherwise systematically bunched or bundled they may be inserted under the end portions oi the clasps within the respective spaces upon the sheet 1. and thus held upon the sheet in systematic order.
The advantage gained in having the end portion 6 of the clasps 3 provided with the projecting end portions 7 which extend beyond the edges of the opposite end portions is that the finger of one hand may be placed against the sheet 1 directly over the projecting end 7 at the reverse side of the sheet when the finger of the other hand is inserted under the end 7 upon the obverse side of the sheet and is moved against the tension of the clasp in order that the documents may be inserted thereunder; Thus, the portion 6 upon the reverse side of the sheet is prevented from tearing into the sheet when the portion 6 upon the obverse side thereof is swung away from the sheet.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters- Patent is:
A holder comprising a clasp having a coiled intermediate portion with extended end portions, said end portions being of the same contour and each having a projecting portion disposed laterally beyond the edge of the opposite portion, a sheet interposed between my own, have hereto afiixed my signature the end portions and having an operlning in the presence of two Witnesses.
which receives the coiled portion of the ho er and a securing means attached to the sheet A KINDWALL- 5 and passing through the coiled portion of the Witnesses:
F. A. LEANDER holder.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as O. E. LARSON.
