TICKET OR TAG HOOK.
cranes.
Application filed November 9, 1909.
Specification of Letters Patent.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK SAMSON VVEB- sTER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Lexington, in the county of Dawson and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ticket or Tag Hooks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improvement in tag fasteners in the nature of a ticket or tag hook, and the invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is an elevation. Fig. .2 is a side view of the hook, the ticket being shown in section. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the hook. Fig. 4 is a detail elevation of the blank from which the hook section is formed and Fig. 5 is a similar View of the blank forming the tongue section.
As shown, the hook section A is bent at one end forming the hook proper A and has its other end formed to provide a broad base at A which has a large central opening A which is entered, from its lower edge by a small spur or lug A which is deflected slightly to the front or to the same side of the hook section as the hook A and is adapted to enter an opening B in the ticket B and aid in looking the hook to the ticket in the use of the invention as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing.
The tongue section C has an outer or frame portion C and an inner or connecting portion C separated throughout its major portion from the frame C by a slit C and connected at its base at C with the frame C and the frame portion is bent forwardly at its point C to abut the hook A and form the tongue of the fastener while the point or free end C of the inner portion or plate C of the tongue section is secured at C to the body of the tongue section, preferably by means of a rivet as shown in the drawings. At its lower end the tongue section is slightly out-turned at C and the hook section is also out-turned to facilitate inserting a ticket as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and the ticket when so inserted, being provided with an opening B may be pressed to the position shown in Fig. 2 in which the inner plate C of the tongue section will press the ticket firmly against the base portion of the hook section A and the spur A will enter the opening B in the ticket and secure the fastener in connection therewith.
The invention will be found useful whereever it is desired to attach hooks to tickets for convenient connection with articles and the fastener is especially designed for jewelers use in attaching tags on repair and display work avoiding the use of string and similar fastenings.
In the specific construction shown, it will be noticed that the hook section has its base portion provided with a central opening and with a spur entering the same from the lower end thereof to engage with the ticket and the tongue section is so formed as to secure the ticket in interlocked connection with the said spur when the parts are applied as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the tongue of said section being deflected forwardly to cooperate with the hook of the hook section. At the same time the tongue and hook sections, when united in the manner described, form a fastener which is compact, has a neat appearance and in which the tongue of the hook can be conveniently opened by the pressure of the thumb or finger.
In releasing the fastener from the ticket or tag B, the tag may be grasped in' one hand and the fastener in the other and the said fastener be tilted at the upper end to the right from the position shown in Fig. 2, which will spring the spur out of the opening B and permit the convenient detachment of the parts. In order to secure this result, it will be noticed that I form the fastener with the hook section and the tongue section united at a point about midway between the ends of the fastener with the lower ends of the hook section and of the tongue section detached so they may be sprung apart.
I claim:
1. The fastener herein described composed of a hook section having a hook proper at one end and having a broad base at its other end, said broad base being pro vided with a central opening and with a spur entering the same from its lower side and deflected forwardly to the same side of the hook section as the hook proper, a tongue section formed from a plate of metal and having an outer or frame portion and an inner portion or plate united at its lower edge with the frame portion and free at its upper edge or point and the point of the frame section being deflected forwardly to operate as a tongue in connection with the hook proper and means securing the upper end or point of the inner or plate portion of the tongue section to the hook section at a point between the upper and lower ends of the hook section, the lower ends of the hook and tongue sections being detached and adapted to be sprung apart, all substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. A fastener comprising a hook section having a hook proper at one end and having at its other end a projecting spur deflected to the same side of the sect-ion as the hook proper and a tongue section secured to the hook section at a point approximately midway between the ends of the hook section and arranged at its free end opposite the spur of the hook section, said end of the tongue section being separated from the corresponding endof the hook section whereby the sections may be sprung apart at such end, substantially as set forth.
3. A fastener comprising a hook section and a tongue section secured at one end to the hook section at a point approximately mid-way between the ends of the latter, the said tongue section having a tongue cooperating with the hook proper and the free end of said tongue section being separated from the corresponding end of the hook section and adapted for cooperation therewith, substantially as set forth.
4. A fastener consisting of two separate sections secured together, the said fastener having at one end plates spaced apart to receive between them a ticket and having at its other end a hook formed on one of the sections and a tongue carried by the other section for cooperation with said hook, one of the end plates for the reception of a ticket being formed on the hook section, and the other end plate being formed 011 the other section, substantially as set forth.
5. A fastener composed of a hook section having a hook proper at one end, a tongue section secured at its upper end to the hook section and having at its lower end a separated portion projecting upwardly and deflected to cooperate as a tongue with the hook proper of the hook section, the free end of the tongue section and the corresponding end of the hook section being separated and adapted for cooperation substantially as set forth.
