To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE E. REYNOLDS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Check or Ticket Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to checkholders such as are suitable to be attached to trunks, boxes, cars, or the like to hold a metallic or cardboard check or ticket in sight, so that it may be read without removal therefrom, the objects of the invention being to provide a check-holder of the kind which may be constructed from a piece of plate metal and a piece of wire to eliminate the necessity of solderingin such holders,to simplify the construction of such holders and other objects as are herein specified, and pointed out in the claims.

To these ends the invention consists of the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, as herein set forth and illustrated in the drawings, in which Figure 1 is a diagrammatic view of a platemetal blank from which one of the principal members of my check-holders is constructed. Fig. 2 is a front view of a wire clamp constituting the other principal member of my device. Fig. 3 is a view of the wire clamp, taken at right angles to that of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a front elevation of one of my checkholders in use with a check inserted therein. Fig. 5 is a view taken in cross-section on the line as wof Fig. 4:. Fig. 6 is a view in crosssection, taken on the line y y of Fig. 1. Fig. 7 is a view taken on the line u of Fig. 4.

Referring to the drawings, 1 denotes a piece of plate metal from which the principal member of my check or ticket holder is constructed. A portion is cut away from the opposite ends of said blank, as at 2 2, so as toincrease the sight of the ticket to be held. It is also notched at the corners 3 3 for the purpose of freeing the lip 4., which is arranged to be bent at right angles to the body of the blank. Punch-holes 5 5 are arranged in the lip 4 to receive the projections 6 6 when the opposite sides of the holder are bent into position, the bending being in general on the dotted lines 7 7, the projections 8 8 and 9 9 of the blank being recurved, so as to lie par-.

allelwith the back of the holder, as shown in Figs. 1 and 5. Holes 10 10, arranged at either side of the blank, serve to receive the projections 11 11 of the wire clamp 12, so as to hold it in position when in use. The clamp 2 is constrained against the back of the holder, so as to hold the check or ticket by means of bending the parts 13 13 out of the plane of the central portion of the holder, as shown in theedge view of Fig. 3. The main body member 1 is also adapted to be secured to trunks, cars, or the like by means of screws passed through the screw-holes14, which are countersunk to receive the heads of the screws, as shown in Fig. 6.

In using the device the main member 1 may be secured against the end of a trunk by screws passed through the holes 14, and the wire member 12 may be bent so that its parts pass directly over the heads of the screws when they are placed into position. When the wire member 12 is then slid down into position, the projections 11 11 snap into the holes 10 10 and are not readily withdrawn therefrom. The tickets or checks, as 15, may then he slid under the clamp 12, where they are adapted to be held by compression, as explained. It is provided that when the parts of the holder are assembled and secured in position they may not be removed without some difficulty by the arrangement of screws; but tickets are readily removable by drawing upward.

Having thus described my invention and the operation thereof, I do not wish to be confined to the exact construction as described and illustrated, since many of the parts may be modified in size and shape without departing from the general spirit of my invention.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The heroine described check or ticket holder comprised in a main plate having its lateral edges recurved, means for fastening said plate to a surface, and a spring-clamp having recurved ends resting under the in turned edges aforesaid, and an intermediate part arranged to clasp a check or ticket against the .back of the body portion aforesaid, substantially as specified.

2. In a check or ticket holder, the combination with a flat metallic back having lateral sides intu rned, and a wire clamp having recurved ends strained under the inturned edges aforesaid, and the central part of said clamp constrained against the back of the holder, substantially as specified.

3. In a check or ticket holder of the kind described, a flat metallic piece having inturned edges and having holes at "opposite sides of the piece, a wire clamp having end projections inserted into said holes,rand a loop portionconstrained against the back for the purpose of clamping a check or ticket, substantially as specified.

4. In a check-holder of the kind described,

a flat metallic back piece having inturned lateral edges, and having holes at opposite sides of said piece, a wire clamp having end projections inserted into said holes, and a loop portion constrained against the back piece aforesaid, for the purpose of clamping the check or ticket, and the said back piece having additional holes, through which to insert screws for fastening the same, the loops of said wire clamp arranged to lie over the holes aforesaid, for the purpose of guarding against removal of the fastenings, substantially as specified.
