To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that LGEORGE H.ROBERTS,Sr. a citizen of the United States, residing at New York in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ticket-Holders for Car-Seats, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to ticket-holders for car-seats, and has for one of its objects to provide an improved device of the class described which will possess points of advantage in simplicity, inexpensiveness, and facility of manufacture, ease and readiness of application, convenience, effectiveness, and general efi'iciency.

Another object of this invention is to provide an improved device of the class described which will safely and securely hold railroad, steamboat, and other tickets and theaterchecks and the like in a convenient position for inspection and collection by those charged with that duty.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a ticket-holder embodying my improvements in operative position on the back of a car-seat. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the parts of the same disassembled. Fig. 4 is a perspective View of a modification of the device shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a plan View of the parts of the latter disassembled.

Corresponding parts in all the figures are denoted by the same reference characters.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates my improved ticket-holder, which is preferably secured in operative position upon the top edge 2 of the back 3 of a car-seat 4.

The ticket-holder 1 comprises a base 5 and a clamping member 6. The base member 5 is preferably formed of a single plate '7, having an extended outer or upper facial area and perforated near each end to permit the passage of securing means, such as screws 8. The clamping member 6 is preferably formed integral with the base member 5 and is turned back upon the base member 5 and operatively extends longitudinally with respect to the plate 7. The outer end of the clamping member 6 is turned slightly away from the base member 5 to permit the ready insertion of a ticket between the two members, and the inner end of the clamping member 6 is perforated in registration with the perforation at that end of the base member 5. A block 9 is provided and adapted when the parts of the ticket-holder 1 are assembled in operative position to be placed between the base member 5 and the clamping member 6, adjacent to the point where the latter is turned back upon the former, to space the two members apart. The block 9 is provided with a perforation in registration when in operative position with the registering perforations in the base member 5 and the clamping member 6.

My improved ticket-holder l is operatively secured to the supporting structure or top edge 2 of the back 3 of the car-seat 4 by securing means or screws 8, which are passed through the perforation in the outer end of the plate 7 and through the registering perforations in the clamping member 6, the block 9, and the base member 5.

Preferably my improved ticket-holder l is composed of a rectangular metallic blank 10, the ends of which are rounded and the side edges of which at one side of the center are slightly cut away to more readily permit of the bending of the blank 10 at that point and to furnish bevel side edges 11 at the end Where the base member 5 and the clamping member 6 join to give a finish thereto. The blank 10 is provided with perforations 12 near each end of the longer part and near the end of the shorter part adjacent to the cut-away side edges. The base member 5 is composed of the longer partof the blank 10 and the clamping member 6 of the shorter part, which is turned back onto the longer part at the point where the side edges of the blank 10 are cutaway. The block 9 preferably has its side edges cut away at one end complementary to the side edges at the end where the base member 5 and the clampingmember 6 join when the latter is turned back on the former.

When the parts of my improved ticketholder 1 are in relative operative position and secured to the supporting structure or top edge 2 of the back 3 of the car-seat 4 by suitable means-such as screws 8,passin g through the outer end of the base member 5, and the clamping member 6, block 9, and base member 5the clamping member 6 is maintained firmly in position, with the lower surface of the clamping member 6 in operative engagement with the upper surface of the base member 5, as at 13, under the tension exerted by the resilient quality of the clamping member 6.

A modified form of my improved ticketholder 1 is shown in Figs. 4 and 5, in which the base member 5 and the clamping member 6 are composed of separate parts. In this form of the device the base member 5 comprises a rectangular plate 14 with rounded ends and provided with perforations 15 near each end and at each side of the center. The clamping member 6 comprises a rectangular plate 16, somewhat shorter than the plate 14 and with rounded ends. The plate 16 has its sides centrally cut away similarly to those of the blank 10 and is provided at each side of said cut-away portion with perforations 17, which when the parts are assembled register with the central perforations 15 in the plate 14. The block 9 comprises a rectangular plate 18, having its side edges centrally cut away complementary to those of the plate 16 and provided with perforations 19, which when the parts are assembled register with the perforations 17 in the plate 16 and with the central perforations 15 in the plate 14. In assembling the parts in the modified form of the device the plate 18 is placed upon the plate 14, the perforations 19 registering with the central perforations 15 in the plate 14,

1 and the plate 16 is then placed upon the plate 18, the perforations 17 registering with the perforations 19 in the plate 18. The parts of the devices are now secured to the supporting structure or top edge 2 of the back 3 of the car-seat 4 by screws 8, passing through the

15,17, and 19, and the clam ping member 6 thereby maintained firmly in operative engagement with the base member 5 on each side of the plate 18. It will be understood that the two end portions 20 of the plate 16 have been bent into proper shape.

The operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood and appreciated. The parts being assembled and secured upon the top edge 2 of the back 3 of the car-seat 4, it is only necessary to insert a ticket between the clamping member 6 and the base member 5 for it to be securely held in a convenient position forinspection orcollection by the conductor. The turning up of the outer end of the clamping member 6 makes the insertion of the ticket an easy and simple matter. The device is extremelysimple, may be manufactured at small cost, and is easily assembled and secured in operative position. If desired, the modified form may be used and secured in the middle of the top edge 2 of the back 3 of the car-seat 4and the tickets inserted from each side instead of using two holders secured near the opposite sides of the top edge 2. It is evident that the device may be used for other purposes than to hold railroad-tickets, as to hold theater-checks or any other evidence of the right to transportation or place where seats are furnished and such evidences required to be produced for inspection. It may also be used to hold various articles, as bills, labels, papers, &c.

I do not desire to be understood as limiting myself to the details of construction and arrangement as herein described and illustrated, as it is manifest that variations and modifications may be made in the features of construction and arrangement in the adaptation of the device to various conditions of use without departing from the spirit and scope of myinvention and improvements. I therefore reserve the right to all such variation and modification as properly fall Within the scope of my invention and the terms of the following claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. Aticket-ho1dercomprising a base member adapted to be secured to a support, a clamping member extending longitudinally over the base member and having a convex under surface to contact with the base, and a block interposed between the two members.

2. A ticket-holder comprising a base member adapted to be secured to a support, a clamping member extending over said base member secured thereto at one end and turned upward at its free end, and a block interposed between the two members at their connected ends.
