Description
B; P. SAUNDERS COMBINATION HOLDER Aug. 30, 1-932.
' Filed Sept. 28, 1929 INVENTOR. leg 37 m 7P squ r 9 3a.
ATTORNE Patented Aug. 30, 1932 PATENT OFFICE BENJAMIN P. SAUNDERS, OF PONTIAC, MICHIGAN COMBINATION HOLDER Application filed September 28, 1929. Serial No. 395,984.
My invention relates to a new anduseful improvement in a combination holder adapted for mounting in a convenient position such as on the instrument board or other support in a vehicle to provide a means for holding a watch, pencil, pad, or other similar article.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a device of this class which will be simple in structure, economical of manufacture, and highly eflicient in use.
Another object of the invention is the pro vision of a device of this class which may be mounted in a convenient place and on which the various articles held may be easily and quickly attached and detached.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by a reference to the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification, and in which Fig. 1 is a front elevational view or" the invention. I
Fig. 2 is a side elevational View of the invention.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the invention.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line 47-4: of Fig. 3.
The invention is formed from a strip of metal 7 having a tongue 8 punched therefrom and partly doubled upon itself. The lower end of the member 7 is a-ngularly turned to extend outwardly as at 9 and upwardly struck tongues 10 and 11 extend at opposite sides of the lateral arms 12 and 13, each of which is provided at its upper end with a pair of spaced wings 14 and 15.
Lying in engagement with the plate or strip 7 and secured thereto is a plate or strip 16 having the angularly turned portion 17 directed to lie below the portion 9 and slightly inclined theretoward, the outer end of this angularly turned portion 17 being curved as at 18.
In use the device may be attached to a suitable support by means of screws or other fasteners projected through the plates 7 and 16. The tongues 10 and 11 together with the arms 12 and 13 and the Wings 14 and 15 serve as a suitable support for a watch 19, the metal from which the device is made being resilient so that these arms 12and 13' will spring apart sufficiently to permit the insertion of a watch thereinbetween and serve to securely hold the watch in position. The tongue 8 will co-operate with the watch and the tongue 10 for retaining in position a pencil which may be placed to lie in a hori zontal plane across the member 9. The member 17 will serve to clamp a memorandum pad against the undersurface of the member 9. If desired the device may also be clamped on a suitable support placed between the parts 17 and 9.
In this way there is provided a very simple and inexpensive holding device which serves a number of purposes and which may be made in an attractive form.
WhileI have illustrated and described the preferred form of my invention, I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details ofstructure shown but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as may come within the scope of the appended claim. y 1
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A device of the class described, comprising: a plate; a portion turned to extend an- .gularly to said plate; lateral arms at opposite sides of said angularly turned portion extending upwardly in spaced relation; a
7 pair of tongues punched from said angularly turned portion and projected upwardly extending substantially at right angles to said lateral arms; and a clamping member extending below and in spaced relation to said angularly turned portion.
In testimony whereof I have signed the foregoing specification:
BENJAMIN P. SAUNDERS.
