This invention relates to card or display holders and it has for one of its objects the provision of means for holding a show card or other display card in a substantially upright position.

One of the more specific objects of the invention is to provide a holder of the class described comprising a card-holding clip and a detachable foot or support therefor, the separable nature of which device makes it convenient to ship and easy to store when not in use.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a card-holding clip having a card-receiving slot of resilient nature adapting the clip to receive cards of various thickness.

Still another object of the invention is the provision of a card-holding clip having means for automatically aligning the card with the longitudinal dimension of the clip so as to give the associated card and clip a neat and attractive appearance.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a card-holding clip with detachable support, reversible in nature whereby it can be used either on the right or on the left side of the card.

Other objects of the invention relate to the specific details of the clip and of the support as Will appear as the following description of the preferred embodiment of the invention proceeds.

In the drawing which accompanies and forms a part of the following specification and throughout the several figures of which the same characters of reference have been employed to designate identical parts:

Figure l is a perspective view of a card supported on both sides by one of the card or display holders forming the subject of the present invention;

Figure 2 is a perspective view of the card-holding clip;

Figure 3 is a cross section taken along the line 3-3 of Figure 2;

Figure 4 is a section taken along the line 4-4 of Figure 3; and

Figure 5 is a section through the foot of the clip illustrating the correlated structure of the clip and detachable support.

Referring now in detail to the several figures, the numeral I represents in general the clip which referably is made from a sheet metal blank folded as is clearly shown in Figure 3 to form a front face 2, and .a side face 3, said faces being preferably flat, arranged at right angles to one another, and having a bead 4 extending along the apex of the dihedral angle formed between the front and side faces. The side face 3 opposite the head 4 is bent so as to form a corresponding bead 5, the last named bead merging into a curved back face 6 which approaches the front face 2 preferably leaving a very narrow space 1 between said faces for the insertion of a card. The back face 6 is preferably of resilient nature so that cards of various thickness can be slipped into the space 1 and clamped between the front face 2 and back face 6. Said back face preferably has .a flaring lip 8 to facilitate the insertion of the card. 10

4 and 5 form sockets 9, one of which is shown in Figure 5. The support comprises a rod or wire l0 having a straight portion H and a loop or bight l 2 which is somewhat resilient and fits frictionally within the socket 9. Due to the resiliency of the loop or bight I2 it bears against the inner surfaces of the

beads

4 and 5 and holds the support in fixed relation with respect to the clip I. Since the sockets at the upper and. lower ends of the clip are similar the support may be engaged in either one adapting the clip to be used with either end as the bottom end, this enabling the clip to be reversed and used at the opposite side of the card.

In order somewhat to relieve the stiffness of the curved back face 6 and for another purpose which will presently be described, the back face is stamped out or slitted as illustrated inv Figure 2, back of the flaring lip 8 with two transverse slits l3 and I4 and a joining slit I5. This confines the stiffness of the back face 6 substantially to those parts which lie above and below the slitted intermediate portion. The tongue l6 formed by the slitting is preferably flattened out as shown in Figure 3 so as to obstruct the passage of the card preventing it entering into either of the upper or lower sockets 9. If it were not for the obstructing tongue I5, the card could be pushed in until its lower corner engaged the loop or bight l2 of the wire which occupies the lower part of the socket, but the upper part could be pushed still further until it contacted the inner surface of the face 3. This would cause the card to be inclined with respect to the longitudinal edges of the various faces of the clip and produce a bad appearance. According to the structure of the present invention, the tongue l5 forms a straight edge and. aligns the card to a position in which its side edge 0 is parallel to the longitudinal edges of the clip.

The card and display holder can be used singly, on either side of a card or in pairs as indicated in Figure 1. The detachability of the support [0 from the clip ll permits a number of pairs to be 55 arranged in parallel in a small package facilitating the sale and storage of the article. It is obvious that the construction of the clip or the support for that matter is not confined to metal, but the clip may be made of any eligible sheet material such for example as celluloid, bakelite, etc.

While I have in the above description disclosed what I believe to be a preferred and practical embodiment of the invention, it will be understood to'those skilledin the art that the details of construction and the specific form and arrangement of parts is merely by way of example and not to be construed as limiting the scope of the invention which is defined in theappended claims. 7

What I claim is: Y

1. Card and display holder comprising a sheet material clip and a supporting base therefor, said material being bent to form front and side faces substantiallyatright angles to one another, and a curved back face approaching the front face, with flaring lip, the curve of saidback face being substantially tangent to (perpendicular planes parallel'respectively to-said side and front faces andspaced therefrom, whereby said back face formswith said side face a socket and with said frontface a card-receiving slot, and a support for said clip having aportion fitting said socket.

2. Card and display holder comprising a sheet material clip,.said material being bent Substanwith a bead along the apex of the angle, and

having a curved resilient back face approaching thefront face, with flaring lip, to form with said front face-la card-receiving slot, said back face being intermediately slitted to form a tongue, saidtongue'extending into the base of said slot in obstructive relation to said bead, determining the parallel alinement of said inserted card relative to the-longitudinal dimensions of said clip.

'4. Card and display holder as claimed in claim 3 including a support at the foot of said clip.

5. Card and display holder as claimed in claim 3, said clip having 'a similar socket at each end, formed-between said-back and side faces and in eluding saidbead,- and asupport including a portion adapted to fit into either of said sockets whereby said clip may be reversed.
