DISPLAY DEVICE.
original application filed July i4, 1925, serial No. 43,546. Divided and this application filed April s, 192s. Serial No. 100,614.
The present invention relates to improvements in display devices and constitutes a division of my copending similarly entitled application, filed July 14, 1925, Serial No.
An object of the invention described and claimed herein is to providel a holder yfor cards or tags used to contain prices or other 'legends in connection with the display of goods in store windows, upon shelves, or
other store counters.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device adapted to fit particularly u on a sllelf and which may hold a card o relatively large size.
A further object of the invention is to produce an inexpensive device made from sheet metal which will possess lasting qualities in this service.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention will be more fully described hereinafter, and will be more partie'- ularly pointed out in the clailn appended hereto.
In the drawings, wherein like sylnbols refer to like or corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an improved display device constructed according to the present invention; and
Figure 2 is a similar view showing a modiication.
Referring particularly to Figure 1, the body portion 31 is shown as upstanding and supported upon the base portion 32 and in addition there is a top portion 33. The base portion 32 will preferably be inclined upwardly and will also be preferably inclined downwardly at its rear so as to be more easily inserted on a shelf, and so as to be more firmly clamped to the shelf or other support.
The parts 32 and 33 form in eil'ect a clamp to be inserted over the edge of a shelf or other support. The parts are, of course, spread out to admit of this and they will hug the shelf and prevent accidental dislodgment. The device may be pulled ofi' by the direct application of force.
The card may be held in elongated tongues 34 cut out along parallel side lines and hinging as indicate at 35 at substantially Cil the lower edge of the upright part. The top ends of these tongues are shown as cut from metal lying substantially coincident with the plane of the top part 33 and the tongues are shown as bent slightly outwardly from the plane of the upright part. Thus an elongated support is not needed but the card is held at two points near its opposite edges and no tilting or canting may occur. This form of device may, if desired, be placed on an article of merchandise or on any flat surface and the base portion 32 may, if desired, be inclined downwardly at its rear su'lliciently far to permit the device to hold a card in vertical position when the device is placed on any flat surface.
In Figure 2 there are shown clamp parts 32 and 33 with the rear edges of the upper part 33 rounded as indicated at 36 for the purpose of facilitating the insertion of the device on a shelf. The upright part 31 is shown as provided with two upright tongues 37 which, in this instance, are cut from the remotest edge portions of the upright member, thus making it necessary for one incision only at each side, the tongue being bent then from material between the incision-and the edge of the upright part. By having the tongues 37 of narrow width, the fact that the support is removed at the edges of the device is not material and does not unfavorably affect the strength of the device. l In this instance also the card is inserted between the tongues 37 and the upright portion 31 of the device between which the card is clamped resiliently. The clamp member 32 may, as before explained, be inclined upwardly and then inclined downwardly at its rear.
It is obvious that various changes and modifications maybe made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically described embodiment of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof. I
I reserve the right to make all such changes as fall within the scope of the following claim.
What is claimed is A display device comprising a solid panel, wide clamp members extending entirely across the upper and lower edges of the panel and being bent therefrom, and clips clamp member being' out away opposite the for holding cards out from the panel near upper edges of the clips to bring the upper but spaced inwardly from the ends thereof ends of the Clips substantially flush with l0 and being of substantiallythe height of the the plane of the upper surface of the upper 5 panel, said clips having connections at their clamp member.
base portions hingedly with the front edges In testimony whereof I aiix my signature. of the lower clamp member, said upper GEORGE F. EGAN.
