Description

Patented May 26, 1931 .Y
UNITED STATES PATENT j JOHN ERLENDsoN AND VALENTINE e. rV'AUnHAFnn, or vVANcoU,vnRV,ABnIrIsn COLUMBIA, AdaNana ATTAGHABLE BR-icmirl sHELr Application med April e, 1930. Serin No. 442,894;
This invention relates to shelves and shelf brackets and is designed as an auxiliary thereto.
An object of the invention is to supply instantly additional shelf and display space in a form both convenient and expeditiously.
Another object of the invention is to supply means both suitable and adaptable whereby shelf, counter and table space may be extended for the further display of goods.
Another object of the invention is to supply as an attachment to permanent shelves and fixtures additional space whereby special display and exhibit of goods may be eHected without marring or making structural changes to the existing furnishings.
Our invention will be found both practical andrconvenient to use in stores and store windows for conspicuously displaying goods,
as by its use advantage may be taken of utilizing the most prominent portions of the store to effect such display.
, The invention is designed to be instantly attachable and detachable to all forms of shelving counters and tables and in a modilied form can also be used for attaching to walls.
The invention is more readily understood by referring to the drawings and specification which form partrof this application and in which:
Figure l is a plan view of the sheet metal cut to shape previous tofolding.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the bracket shelf as formed to lit over the edge Vof a table.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the bracket shelf formed to iit on a wall. I
Like numerals of referenceV indicate corresponding parts in the various figures.
l is thev main body portion, 2 the side supporting braces folded downwardly on the dotted lines A, 3 is a lower edge folded upwardly on the dotted lline B, 4 is a the stiifening web to the side supporting braces .2 folded upon the dotted line C, 5 is the main supporting member bent angularly downward approximately thirty degrees upon the dotted line D, 6 is the keyhole securing slots by- Whih the Cleric@ .is Supported when hooked; 1 over suitably spaced nails.` V
y 'Ifov use the bracket shelf, nails arel driven, into the shelf, table or ledge itA is.V dcsredot. add thebracket shelf to, suitablyspaced to; register with the attaching` slots 6, the` nails i' beingspaced back fromE the edge ofthe-shelf a sucient distance to permit of the stifen. ing web l contacting the.rv lower edge of the shelf to which the bracket shelfv isto be attached; the device is theny hooked over nail heads to firmly secure same.
The bracket shelf is adapted for attaching to any ridged horizontal support and may be adapted for attaching to a wall by a slight modification if the upper portion 5 is bent upwardly and right-angularly on the dotted line E. This upwardly bent portion will .then lie flat upon the walls, secured upon nails suitably spaced to register with the key- 7o hole slots, the lower corners 7 of the side sup- 7 5 porting braces 2 forming supporting contacts with the wall to hold the shelf at a suitable inclination to make favourable display of any goods placed thereon.
Having now particularly described our invention, what we claim and desire to be Vprotected in by Letters Patent, is:
l. In a metal bracket shelf the combination comprising, a piece of flat sheet metal whose ends are parallel thereto and on whose sides there are formed wedge-shaped extensions intermediate of the ends, the upper edge of said wedge-shaped extensions being bent right-angularly to form stiifening webs, and the'said wedge-shaped extensions being bent downwardly and right-angularly to the main body portion to form stiffening braces thereto, the end of the sheet metal extending below the points of the wedge portions on 9o each side being bent right-angularly up- 'Y wards to form a ledge, and the metal on the upper and opposite end being bent angularly to form a supporting ledge, said supporting ledge having keyhole slots therein adapted for securing over nails in the supporting body to which the shelf is to be attached the length of said wedge-shaped extensions being less than the length of said main body portloll measured along the edges where they 1pc are joined, whereby when the shelf is in place the outer points of said Wedge-shaped extensions only will engage the supporting body.
2. A blank for metal bracket shelves comprising a central rectangular portion and side triangular portions extending from the central portion and of less length than the central portion, the ends of the central portion extending beyond tlie triangular portions being adapted to be bent at angles to the remainder of the central portion to constitute a receiving ledge at one end and an article holding ledge at the other end, said triangular portions being adapted to be bent at right angles to the central portion Whereby their extreme points will servetoengage the supporting body to Which the bracket shelf may be secured, said central portion at the extremity opposite the article receiving ledge being provided with apertures for the reception of fastening devices.
In testimony whereof We ax our signatures.
JOHN ERLENDSON. VALENTINE G. FAULHAFER.
