Description
L. c. JEEP.
TAG HOOK APPLICATION Fl LED FEB. 16, I920.
Patented May3, 1921.
FIE-l, I
A TTORNEY.
UNITED STATES LOUIS C. JEEP, OF SIOUX CITY, IOWA.
TAG-HOOK.
Application filed February 16, 1920.
T 0 all 1071-0771 it may concern Be it known that I, Louis C. JEEP, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Sioux City, in the county of \Voodbury and State of lowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tag-Hooks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention aims to provide a swinging hook of simple and inexpensive yet efficient construction and principle and particularly designed for mounting on the edges of merchandise shelves and removably supporting tags on which are indicated the prices of goods upon the shelves.
The invention further contemplates a tag hook which may be mounted to depend from the edge of a merchandise shelf and so constructed that while a price tag may be readily applied to or removed from the hook, accidental displacement of the tag from the hook is prevented and the hook will in no way obstruct the removal of merchandise from the shelf below.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consisting in the construction, combination and novel arrangement of parts, will be fully understood from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application and in which like characters of reference indicate correspond.- ing parts throughout the several views, of which,-
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is rear elevation thereof with a fragment of a applied thereto; and
F 3 is a side elevation thereof as applied to a shelf.
Referring, now, to the illustrations, 4: is a sheet metal plate having in its rear side, a longitudinal depression, 5. The hook con sists of a wire folded on itself at its approximate center. the folded end portions then being bent in the shape of a hook, 6, the end portions of the wire are then bent latterly in opposite directions as at 7 and freely inclosed in the recess, 5, the lower edge of the plate, l, being provided with a notch, 8,

which extends from the lower edge of the plate into the recess, 5, to receive the shank, 9, of the hook.
The plate, 4, may be provided with openings, 10, to receive nails or screws, 11, for attaching the plate to the face of the shelf, 12.
The hook and plate are so related and constructed and so mounted upon the shelf that normally the hook oepends in the position shown in Fig. 3 with the end portion of the hook in engagement with the lower side of the shelf, 12, in which position it will be observed, the tag is not likely to be accidentally displaced nor the hook engaged by persons passing in front of the shelving and 7 articles being removed from the next lower shelf (not shown) will not be caught upon the hook, but when brought into engagement with the hook, the latter will be swung outwardly as indicated in dotted lines.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is,
1 swingingehook, including a single length of wire folded upon itself, the folded one portion thereof being formed in a hook, and the free end portions thereof being bent longitudinally in opposite directions, and a support therefor, including a sheet-metal plate adapted to be mounted on the front of a shelf, the side of the plate adjacent the shelf having an intermediate horizontal concave recess, between which and the shelf the free end portions of the hook are inclosed, the plate having a notch in its lower edge extending into the recess to permit the hook to oscillate and normally rest in the notch a nst the shelf, the plate and hook being so disposed that the free end of the hook extends rearwardly and normally engages the under side of the shelf a distance from the front edge thereof. to prevent accidental displacement of articles from the hook and protrude from the front of the shelf a minimum distance.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 2nd day of Sept, 1919.
LOUIS C. J EEP
