VE. A. DODELIN TOILET PAPER HOLDER *l 2 ffllenor mpdpadei/ Filed Aug. 3, 1934' Patented Dec. 31, 1935 UNITED `STATES PATENT oFFlcE 2` Claims.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in a toilet paper holder and has for one of its objects to provide a device of this character wherein a roll of toilet paper may be readily and Vquickly placed in position without removing or with which the axis of the roll of paper will be parallel.
Another object of my invention is to produce a toilet paper holder including means to hold a reserve roll of toilet paper as well as the one which is in posi-tion of use.
Another object of the invention is to arrange the reserve roll holding means so that a strip of paper hanging from the roll, which is in position for use, will be disposed in front of and partly conceal or screen the reserve roll.
A further object of the invention is to construct a simple, inexpensive though durable toilet paper holder comprising a plate or panel having an arm projecting therefrom at right angles thereto for supporting a trunnion having a knob on the outer free end, which knob is small enough to pass .through the bore of the paper roll and sufliciently large to overlap an end of the roll when the latter is resting on the body of the trunnion to prevent accidental displacement of the roll of paper. Said holder also including a pendent reserve paper roll support whereby said reserve roll will be directly beneath the roll in position for use and can be par'tly concealed by a strip of paper hanging from the usable roll.
With these and other objects in View, this invention consists of the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter described and then specifically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its oonstruction in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in Which:-
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a toilet paper holder constructed in accordance with my invention showing rolls of paper thereon.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof with a portion of the hanging paper strip torn away, and
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the holder, per se.
In carrying outv my invention' as herein embodied 5 represents a panel or back plate which may be produced as a stamping, casting or otherwise and may have holes 6 through which fastening devices are projecting for attaching the holder to a Wall 'I or other supporting surface. In lieu of the holes Ii any arrangement may be -resorted to that will permit the device to be fasio tened in place.
An arm 8 projects forwardly from one end or side of the panel at right angles thereto and said arm carries or supports a trunnion 9, including a body I0, round in cross section,` and a knob II on its outer free end. For purposes of illustration this trunnion is shown as fastened to the arm 8 by a screw I2, but if the holder is cast, molded or stamped as a unitary article, the trunnion will be an integral part of the balance of 2o the device and the screw will be unnecessary. The trunnion is at right angles to the arm and parallel with the panel.
Depending from the panel 5 is a reserve roll support or hanger I3 and while it will be obvious 25 that said support I3 can be integral with said panel and also can be of any suitable construction or conguration for convenience of illustration,
I have shown such support I3 as produced from wire so fashioned as to provide a hook portion I4 30 and a pair of legs I5. In the illustration, the reserve roll support I3 is detachably connected to the panel 5, and to accomplish this the upper ends of the legs I5 have eyes I6 produced thereon which engage hooks I'I carried by said panel and 35 where possible these hooks I'I may be formed by partially severing areas of the panel and bending the same back as shown.
The usable roll of paper I8 has an axial opening or bore I9 and is placed in the holder by 40 passing the same over the free end and knob of the trunnion until said knob protrudes from the paper roll as shown in Fig. 2. The trunnion body being as long or longer than the paper roll, said roll will now rest on the trunnion body and a portion of the knob will extend upwardly from the opening over a portion of the outer end of the roll. This will prevent the usable roll from accidentally sliding on? the trunnion while permitting to be rotated for withdrawing a strip of the paper.
The reserve roll of paper 2B, which is identical with the usable roll and will take the place of the latter after the paper has been completely withdrawn, is placed in the reserve roll support I3,
as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, so that said reserve roll rests in the hook portion of the roll support beneath the usable roll and parallel therewith.
As the paper is withdrawn from the usable roll and torn therefrom for use, a strip 2| is usually left which hangs down like a curtain and partially obscures the view of the reserve roll, especially when looking towards the front of the holder.
It will now be obvious that I have provided a toilet paper holderwhich` can be manufactured at low cost, which will be neat in appearance and compact, and one that will hold a reserve roll ready for use when the usable roll has been exhausted.
Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction herein shown and described, as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my'invention.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and useful is:-
'1. In a toilet paper holder, a panel to be secured to a supporting surface, an arm projecting from one side of said panel, a trunnion carried by said arm and lying parallel to the panel in front of the same and adapted to receive a roll of paper, aknob on the outer end of said trunnion for passage through the central opening in the roll of paper and to engage the outer end of said roll about the opening therein to hold the roll on the trunnion against accidental displacement, and a 2. In a toilet paper holder, the combination of 10 a panel having a forwardly projecting arm at one side thereof, said panel having holes whereby fastening devices may be projected through the panel for securing the same to a support, a trunnion connected by one end to the outer end of the 15 arm leaving the outer end of the trunnion free to receive a roll of paper, said trunnion lying parallel withvand in front of the panel, a knob on the outer free end of the trunnion for passage through the central hole of the roll of paper and 20 coacting with the outer end of said roll of paper to prevent accidental displacement thereof from the trunnion, and means detachably connected to the panel to support a reserve roll of paper in a position below the first mentioned roll to be 25 partially obscured by a strip of paper hanging from said rst mentioned roll.
